Speeding up a 560 rear end August 29, 2022 10:44PM
Is it better to change the ring and pinion or have gears made to speed up the rear end?

Re: Speeding up a 560 rear end August 30, 2022 02:10AM
Just curious why you want a faster ring and pinion in a 560 that is already very very fast? You must have a lot of power. What class are you running?

I would recommend changing the constant mesh and then the gears. The fast ring gears are getting hard to find.

Having done similar to a 666, I would recommend figuring out what overall ratio you need to run, stick with the slow ring and pinion and speed up the trans, it will be easier on the ring and pinion.
Install a good input shaft so you can change the constant mesh easily and pick three gears to replace 2, 3 and 4 with, needle the diff and you’ll have a pretty stout setup that has 3 or 4 pulling gears depending on whether you can run 5th or not.
Do it right the first time and it will be cheaper in the long run.

Truth!

If doing a 560 for a llss class or such class add a steel carrier to that list because you will break it thats the weak point in the rear end

Do you know who makes one?

Re: Speeding up a 560 rear end August 30, 2022 11:26PM
Call Atlas. Karl can fix you up with everything that you need to get it right. What ring and pinion do you currently have?

Re: Speeding up a 560 rear end August 31, 2022 03:03AM
I still have the stock ring and pinion. I was thinking about using a 400 ring and pinion or having atlas make faster gears. It seems like the best idea is to have new gears made.

Re: Speeding up a 560 rear end August 31, 2022 02:14PM
If you’re wanting to lighten it up and speed it up at the same time, use a 400 to start with. As previously stated the simplest thing to do is decide what speed you’re wanting to run and get a constant mesh assembly from Karl at Atlas. Once you get the constant mesh set get a fourth gear set as well so you can have a three speed setup. We done this for many years. 3rd gear is the fastest pulling gear followed by 4th gear and then 2nd gear. If you really want to get the ratios closer together between the gears, get a 2nd/3rd combo set and that will help. Like Lewis mentioned, better get a good carrier while your ordering parts.
All this has been done on multiple setups by Richard Taylor. Give him a call he can figure out what ya need and might have something on the shelf already.

Also get the bearing cages that hold your differential in place made out of billet aluminum. After you get the steel differential made, that will be your next weakest point. Believe me, I learned that hard way.

400s are junk and the 560s that didnt get the updated recals are junk

Yeah those ball bearings that didn't get updated to the roller bearings were great weren't they? lol A problem is you can still find the ball bearing but good luck finding the roller bearings.

Jake12, would you be able to provide a contact number for Richard Taylor?

Jake12--Thank you! Also, since we're on the topic of 560 rear ends, I've been told that a w6 rear axle and housings will bolt onto a 560 rear end. Anybody venture down this path before? Did you reuse the 560 bull gears? Did you use the w6 axle shafts? Does a 560 axle shaft fit into the w6 housings? Not making the power of a LLSS tractor, but in the neighborhood of 600-800 hp I believe. Any advice or help is appreciated!

Re: Speeding up a 560 rear end September 07, 2022 04:48AM
Yes a w6 axles will work on a 560 and will hold over 1,000 hp. You can't use the 560 axles but can use the bull gears. I think i have ran this application for 5 years now. You will have to have different hubs made. Caps Bros make a set of hubs for it.

IH-560 you’re welcome. We have ran the w6 setup before and had good luck with them. Don’t hold me to this but I think we lost somewhere around 115-120 lbs total by doing the swap. As mentioned CAP Brothers built our hubs so we could remove them if something happened. Good luck with finding a set they are getting harder to find. The best setup to look for would be a wheatland 400 or 450 if you could find one.

Jake12- why would the wheatland 400/450 be the better setup to find? What's the advantage over the w6 setup?
