Gear ratio to track speed
|
Can anybody provide the formula/equation there is to figure out track speed by knowing ring n pinion tooth count, trans gear tooth count, constant mesh, etc. ?? I don't question the math of Carl at Atlas at all, but just trying to do my homework b4 spending the money on the wrong gear sets. |

You could figure wheel speed, but track speed will be hard to do. You would have to know your % of slip and that will change depending on track conditions etc. |

Engine RPM divided by Ratio, times tire circumference, times 60, divided by 5280 equals MPH |

Tire circumference measured in feet* |

Can someone give a full example of how they found their mph with the above equation? |

Example with Mini Rod:
8000 RPM / 11:1 overall ratio x 138 inch tire circumference / 12 inches per foot x 60 minutes per hour / 5280 feet per mile = 95 miles per hour You just need to make sure all your units cancel out to get miles per hour in the end. |
