How much HP can a Ford 4000 /4610 rear handle February 26, 2023 05:37AM
How much HP can the rear end hold?

Also can the transmission hold as much?

Came across a 4610 rear is it the same as a 4000 or 5000?

Maybe wanting to build single blown engine modified with this rear and wanting to know what this rear can hold at around 6200 lbs?

I think guys have used these rears in light superstock so just wanting ideas what anybody thinks on reliability

I ran a 4600 rear and transmission in an econo-mod at about 750 HP, eventually the transmission broke. I then went direct to the rear and it held up I even ran a blower engine in it a few times. To answer your other question it should be the same or very similar to the later 4000s. Mine has pretty good brakes, I didn't do anything different as far as brakes.

The answers to your questions depend on a lot of variables. Some blown V-8 engines make 1200 HP and some make 3000 HP. The weight you run at will make a difference as well as tire size. If I recall correctly some SS pullers had to go to a different rear-end as they were breaking the 4600 style rears. I don't know what HP they started to fail, maybe someone can post those numbers.

The brakes on mine are large inboard and mechanical and they worked pretty well for us but remember we ran at 5200 lbs, 18.4 tires and 750 HP.

i had one in in twd with a sassy blower engine and ran it fo15 yrs with no proplem i had out board brakes with full pull calpers forresters have it now for about 5 years and still going strong them rear ends are bullet proof
