I'm working on a buda 6B230 gas engine in a cockshutt 40 and the pistons are down
about 1/4-5/16' of a inch at TDC and are dished pistons. Also appears to have been bored over some as well. the piston part numbers are 451382. Can anyone tell me what funky combination I have here knowing the pistons should not be that far down at TDC? Thanks |

Is your head flat, or does it have a combustion chamber? |

If you have the flat head it would not turn over if the pistons were flush with the deck |

IF YOUR GOING TO PULL IT YOU NEED TO CROSS THE 273 FROM A 50 WITH AN ALL 264 |

I'm not sure about all but those Buda engines used in the 40/50 Cockshutts and the d-19 allis Chalmers were different from what we normally expect. The gas engines had a flat head with combustion chambers in the pistons while the diesels had flat top Pistons and combustion chambers in the head. It's likely yours has factory pistons just maybe oversized a little and bored out. The b230 in the 40s and the 262s in the d-19s/gleaner combines were sleeved engines. The b273 in the 50s was not. You can take the crank and cam out of the 262s and put in your 230 and it will give you I believe a 1/4” longer stroke and it's a direct swap no machine work required. If you decide to go big there's not much room in those blocks to get big cubic inches. A lot of guys who do that change to the Hercules engines. Hope this helps some. |
