4430 2 line steering September 13, 2009 02:01AM
Needing to eliminate big boat anchor steering motor on early 4430 with 2 line steering. Will simply connecting the 2 lines from the the steering valve to a hydraulic cylinder work? Still have stock pump & valve for time being, but those may have to go in the near future too. Interested to hear ideas on how others designed a light weight set up. Thanks.

try to find an actual steering cylinder off of a combine or tractor- regular cylinder uses more oil pushing out rod then retracting meaning you must turn steering wheel more in one direction then the other! not huge deal if you are used to it,good luck

On my 4010/6030 I had to change the steering valve [colum].The stock column is a closed center hyd system so we needed open center because we took the front pump off. I used either a forklift or a JD 318/322 lawn tractor.
