Ih farm stock 966 Ambac 100 pump question September 08, 2023 10:49AM
I have an ih 966 with a 13mm Ambac pump on it with 5x31 injectors and a s300sxe 2.4” inlet
I’m trying to figure out how to get more power out of it. Most of the guys who run in my class have a very responsive governor’s and they do a lot of chopping at idle and going down the track. Mine is running very smooth and doesn’t seem to have a lot of power to keep it up around 3000 rpm
Any help is appreciated thanks in advance!

What size injector lines? 5x.031 injectors seem a little big for a 13mm pump but I could be wrong, also keep timing in mind a few degrees can really change the power curve

Whos pump, what size lines, and how many cc’s of fuel?

I’m not sure what lines and the pump was originally a fair valley pump but we had a smaller pump shop add a second feed line in the head of the pump.

The pump shop said that the pump maxed out their flow bench at 500cc

5x31s sound way to big. 5x22 dual feeds are closer to what you need. All 13mm pumps are not created equal. Since you said you added the second feed to the head, that leads me to believe you have an older standard lift pump that is probably putting out 300-350ccs at best, where the newest FVP high lift 13mms put out 600+.

I agree Mo1466.

It depends if the 5x.031’s are dual feeds, then your way too big but you could still be too big single feeding also.
Do you have a lift pump? If not, I’m betting you may only have a standard stock pump calibrated and adjusted for a 13mm head, then you would be around the 280-350cc range, I know of people doing that and you can run stock lines and single feed injectors. If it was me I would have it checked out fvp then, something don’t sound right. You should be able to call or email them and get the information about the pump or just send it in.

Did you just buy this setup or something? Not knowing some important details on what you have or don’t have is hurting you, you may not even have the 5x.031’s you claim. I was in the same boat awhile back.

What cam is in the motor. And are you feeding that model 100 with a pusher pump. If not you need to be and maintain 120psi at wide open or you’ll starve the pump and junk them!!!

It sounds like you may have a pump with lightened governor weights to allow for higher rpm's. The problem is they're not responsive in the 3k range. I had the same issue with a Simms pump. When set at 3k and you hit 3k and when the governor pulled the rack back, it then didn't go full fuel until it dropped several hundred rpm. It would only run about 2500 under load. So ensure that you have a stock governor in that RPM range.
