My idea is to change BGs format for the run for the ring.

I realize that me telling the worlds biggest and best run show in all of pulling how to run their show, is not only bold but even borders on the next level of insanity, however let me press on. The idea stems from several people and pullers [ not that pullers aren't people ]. The idea would entail having a extra session on Thursday after noon. The after noon session could possibly run with some of the larger classes. However the overall idea is to have a session on Saturday evening made up of the top 10 pullers in each class. 10 pullers from 13 classes give you 130 on 2 tracks equals about 65 hooks for Saturday night which could be run in about a 4 hour time frame. This session would be a non-points event. Each class would have an opportunity to pull for the ring and a chance for the 10k in front of the biggest crowd of the show. Some classes receive their rings in the afternoon, and this format would allow the top 10 in each class to hook in front of the biggest session of the show. The winner would receive the ring in front of a huge crowd. How the top 10 are chosen for the Saturday night could be worked out fairly easy. I think this has the potential to finish the show with an exciting climax. Fireworks, light show, crazy dressed backup people, etc. I realize that some of those ideas are not possible or even not sensible. However I’m looking for that element that is out of the everyday show. Again, let me stress that BG is the best, the biggest show in the world. Everything they do is first rate and top quality.

Dick this was my 50th year attending bg,and like yourself a long time attendee, we watch the pull, that's what we're there for.as I've gotten older and look back on the event and read comments on here and Facebook it sure looks like we can all agree on your idea it's great,I'd love it,but why would I ?.after reading post and comments on here,I've been registered 16 years,I'd say 99 percent of us are very mechanically inclined guys,we want more than the paint color, brand,or manufacture bodystyle,,we crave the mechanics of the sport,no matter what level we participate in when we go home.your idea fills that void ,it provides variety, mechanically to us..I know the good ole days aren't coming back in any wsy, shape,or form, but all of us would agree it would have been a huge benefit to the sport to fill the void of variety.as we sit there and watch the vehicles it has to become repetitive and somewhat boring to watch 99.999 percent of the classes that use sparkplugs have a engine of the same basic design, same holds true for the diesel classes, each class has the same basic design of engine.personally I'm not brand loyal to anything,I enjoy the sport, the mechanics of it.thats why hopefully things pan out for cope in pro,a factory based engine under the correct hood,a Perkins v8,the oddest, most different engine in the class and the only pro to cause a reaction in the crowd..the dss had youngblood,a real ac engine getting it done in a big way for years. The minis lack denny horst, with an oldsmobile based powerplant, again different.the mods need allisons, turbines, and wedge headed powerplants.and the trucks need wedge heads..that would satisfy our mechanical craving for variety that we both have.id bet 99 percent of the fans couldn't associate a face with a vehicle,me included, and I don't care whose driving or anything about thier personal life at home, but I'd bet most all care and can relate to the mechanical aspect of the sport.. |

Good post! The problem started in my opinion when the ag sector began consolidating. Case/IH was the first with the sheetmetal Magnums being allowed DT blocks . It was all down hill after that............. |

I'm on topic, your idea creates mechanical variety, more than any other session in event history.it substitutes class variety with session variety.its a shame 13 classes and 5 sessions are needed to have a finals, when any state pull in the 80s did the same.. |

So having said that do you think BG should go to an night show with all 13 and a run for the ring, or leave the show as it is? |

That's tough to answer.i guess id pick run all 13 for the ring sat night..that being said i think the format for the 50th anniversary worked well for a quick Sunday session.the regular 5 sessions wernt changed, and the bonus money was seperate |

Here is a thought also, Leave it alone… everyone is wanting to debate and change something that’s not even broken!! It’s bowling green big class numbers are what that pull is about the best in the country and even other countries show up here to win that’s what bowling green is about! I was in attendance this year all 5 sessions my first time back since 2016. Yes i was apprehensive about Thursday nights session of two trucks being so long but before i knew it was over, you talk about speed from a track crew like I’ve never seen before i mean i think blue shirts had it going on good this year but that’s my opinion and every has them. |

Good idea. My problem..and I'm debating going back next year . Simply put, I cannot sit there for 8 hours on a steel bleacher . Its just too long . If you have 67 Twds and 47 pro stocks and your there for the unlimiteds ( example ) your shot by the time they come out . It needs to have finals on Saturday night . To eliminate fan seat time for me . But, do the fans just wait for the finals instead of showing up for the other two sessions. Idk . |

Jus a thought to ponder
|
Why are the classes that run on Friday night and Saturday night actually chosen ? The promoter must want those classes for a reason to be shown during the biggest crowd attended sessions I would venture to guess. So if that is fact, then why would a promoter want to put several classes that he has already deemed not wanted during "prime time" in the promoters "prime time" ?? |

I'm certainly not speaking for BG, rather just my opinion.
I don't believe that BG thinks any of 13 national class not to be worthy of being in the show. I also think the Saturday night show only has room for so many classes. |

there where slips in programs for several years with questionnaires asking about sessions attended and favorite class and the like. Friday and Saturday nights are the most popular classes that people want to see plain and simple. |

Other thoughts
|
It would be next to impossible to accommodate 3 mod classes for a “finals” type of Saturday night show. Some guys that pull the light modifieds will put a 3rd engine on and pull 7500 mod, while some of the mod guys will add a 4th engine and pull unlimited. It’s also something to note that classes run a day session and a night session. So then there is that to contend with for the “qualifiers” |

no need to be an idiot by not doing a little research on mod history before spouting through the shoot about motor adding used to be almost as much fun as watching the pull |

Wow

Wow…after reading quite a bit on this site I can see that it’s filled full of negativity and hate. This page does NOT show the sport in any sort of good way. According to the way people act on here this sport must be full of a bunch of stuck up snobs who apparently know it all and see it ok to just trash talk every organization and down talk every individual who has an opinion or comment that doesn’t match up to their own. Bunch of grown adults acting like this should be ashamed of themselves. |

I am totally on board with this. This style of event much like NFMS makes for a fantastic show on the final night. This isn't much of a wild idea or insult to Bowling Green or the Blue shirts. Your idea includes the top 10 from each class but if we think back a couple years BG had an extra session with every class pulling the top 5 vehicles to celebrate the 50th anniversary. So your idea has already happened at BG and was a huge success! I'd love to see it come back. |

Dick, I love your opening line, that is great.
I do agree though I would love to see a similar format in the grand national level events to the farm show. Qualify to get in the big show Saturday night in front of the big crowd. The fans get to see the guys on top of there game that weekend and the announcer's/promoter can go all out on special effects and showing off. I can think of a few places that would benefit from a format like this. The crowds would go crazy and really get into it. Also using a similar format you can control the class sizes a little more and put on a better show for the fans through the entire weekend. |
