Excellent interview! I would like to see more one on one conversations like that vs the podcast with a bad connection. Watching all those old pulls sure makes me miss those days, they can say that the modern fast pulls are better, but I still differ, all the different combinations and driving styles kept it interesting, just watch the crowds in the background pumping their fist after a good run, now they just sit there and stare at their phones, and another difference is back then you could count on everyone showing up, a lot less breakage back then or at least less down time |

Heroes of my childhood, many thanks for that great interview. Well arranged bits of orig coverage, showing also the hired guns Bill and Norm. Can't wait for part 2, where they'll climb through some of Daves pictures and artefacts of the golden era of modified tractor pulling.
For all of the young people out there, if you like to learn and understand why even many actual mod tractors look like they are, it's mandatory to watch and listen what these people have to tell. |

After watching this I'm ready to start a Go Fund Me to find the old tractor and get it running so Dave could take it down the track one last time. Excellent video! |

HP comparison

How much hp do you figure Banter's (or Engler/Vernon Kourey) 7 engine tractors made in the 1989-91 time frame before the unlimited weight dropped from 9200 lbs, to the the highest hp unlimited today (would that be Bauer or Benedict/Criswell)?
I know tires and other things are different today; I'm only asking about raw hp. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/03/2024 05:54AM by The Original Michael. |

I would guestimate about 7-9,000 HP for 7 engines back then. 15-16,000 HP for 4 screw blown or 5 roots blown hemis is not unrealistic in this day and age. |

I would say the 496/8-71 BBC combo that Banter ran would be about 1800 hp each. In comparison, today's hemi's with the 18's or screws are going to be about 3000 net hp each. |

What an awesome video! Thank you for sharing. I love hearing and talking to the patriarchs of the sport back when the rigs were built no bought. Part of the fun for me is figuring them out. I almost like that part more than driving. Can't wait to see the rest of it.
Dave says it best in the last 3 minutes or so of the video. |
