What tractor class is best for Massey with 8.3 Cummins? March 22, 2025 05:39PM
Wanting to build an 8.3 Cummins to put in front of a 1100 Massey rear end with a custom-built Massey Transmisson. I'm not sure what class to aim for was thinking to stay around 8500lb. As the tractor sits now it has a tube chassis from my knowledge used to be an older light pro. Was hoping to be able to find a class that i will be able to use a custom head, I've heard the 8.3s don't flow well because they are hard to port with the injectors in the way. Any knowledge about the 8.3 in this combination would be helpful I'm trying to keep motor matching sheet metal as Massey made one tractor with an 8.3 which was the 9240. I know some people are running the 8.3s in whites, new hollands and molines but I've never seen used with Massey. I'm in south western PA, thanks

Just get in touch with the folks who run Battle of the bluegrass, they’ll put u in a class. Then make everyone else build to match you!

I think what Fed Up is trying to say and I cannot disagree is it would be best to find a class you want to pull in and build to those rules. Not the other way around.

The custom headwind be the limiting factor around here, pretty much keeps ya out of anything with smaller than 24.5s...the cs/ppp light pro a-pump would work.im assuming by custom head you mean a recast version. Also that class is kinda geographically limited to swpa too.id also say to be at its top it's a 100k build from there

Northwoods Engineering makes a Recast head/valve train and intake for the 8.3 cummins they are on a couple Super Farms.

Based on what the Barkers have been doing with the Rhapsody 4.1 I'd say the 8.3l / 9.0l (I think it's just a different crank) can be built to be competitive in a wide variety of classes.

Side Note: We are no longer accepting PayPal donations. They have changed their terms of service and stated they would fine PayPal users for spreading "misinformation" and "hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory". PayPal did not provide definitions for some of these vague terms. Woke corporate policies regarding "misinformation" could result in an automatic fine of $2,500 which would have been removed directly from the customer’s PayPal account. PayPal did backdown from some of their policies but quietly implemented portions of them in later terms of service. A financial institute has no right to monitor social media accounts or speech. This is unacceptable and I'll no longer do business with PayPal.
