Re: what is the ratio and weight off a IH 706 rear end October 12, 2009 03:08PM
Im tryin to make 6200 lss Outlaw weight

Re: what is the ratio and weight off a IH 706 rear end October 12, 2009 01:12PM
what weight you shooting for? with a 706 rearend, 1466 transmission, custom front end, aluminum fenders, and 18.4 38 tires on dual rims i weigh 7210 lbs with every unnecessary piece out except for rockshaft cover. not sure what the weight difference is but it is little lighter. also make sure you have a 4 spider differential not a 2 spider. i learned the hard way on that. hope this helps ya.

What have you already stripped off your 856, what weight are you at right now, and what weight are you shooting for?

thanks 1206 October 12, 2009 03:18PM
Were striped and at 7720 runnin brush pullers! and thinkin bout weld on hubs and dont want to do that to a heavy r-end! we launch in Hi 3rd with the torque in But everything is gona change this year! I wana know what the gear ratio is first and weight diff. is! I would like to talk to u Blk stk 1206 im thinkin that ur from Ne.

Re: thanks 1206 October 13, 2009 12:28AM
you would need a rear end out of a 686 666 656 etc to make that weight and be able to throw some around. I think you could make that weight with the 706 rearend but you would need all aluminum sheetmetal, wheelie bars, and frame/axel.

Re: thanks 1206 October 13, 2009 01:03AM
Yep, I'm from Nebr. So I'm pretty sure you've stripped about everything you can off that 856 rear end. 856's should have a 12/49 ring & pinion, which is a 4.08:1 ratio. 706 rear ends will have a 13/49 ring & pinion, for a 3.77:1 ratio. Bull gear & bull pinion ratios are the same between the two rear ends, but 706 ones will be lighter, don't have an exact figure, though. Your tractor is already a heck of a lot lighter than mine is, so you've probably removed a lot more than I have! Send me a PM, I'll give ya my cell phone number.

Forget the 666 rear end idea, if you want to keep your T/A & gear selection, because it won't bolt up.

Have you lost the front bolster and cast radiator surround yet? I had one down to 6850 with some heavy 18.4x38 Radial tires.

Re: thanks 1206 October 13, 2009 02:05PM
We lost the front bolster, and put on a glass front nose, Most of the plates on the rearend and diff are aluminum and going with aluminum wheels this winter. I guess the Hydro. setup has to go next along with the cast piece that the steering wheel mounts to. I wish i could find out what the weight diff is from a 856 to a 706 rearend? And i would like to know about going to a different type of cooling system.

Re: thanks 1206 October 13, 2009 05:27PM
i know of a tractor that has a 706 rear,400 series engine,560 hood/grill,aluminum trans/ rockshaft cover, aluminum 24.5's,light and i mean LIGHT front axle/frame,no ta,no park, light brakes, roll cage that makes a 6500# class and has 200# of moveable weight.i was told that the housings and everything possible were ground paper thin.

Re: thanks 1206 October 14, 2009 01:37PM
Wondering what the tooth count is on a 656 bull pinion? I know there are 13/49 14/49 and 16/49 ring and pinions and the bull gears have 66 teeth. Trying to figure final drive ratio.

Re: what is the ratio and weight off a IH 706 rear end October 14, 2009 04:02AM
Just don't think you can get that 706 lite enough to have any moveable weight but you might. 666 686 isn't much lighter and will need to be beefed up to last (input shart & gears you run) are to weak but for 8 10 passes. If you are going for that weight I'd go with 666 686 and build it up so you will have moveable weight. Hope that helps.I have a neighbor with 414 in 656 Have kenny Smith make you flywheel and I think a 686 rear plate will put it together? Good luck.

Buck hunter what engine are you wanting to run? because if you run a 666 or 686 with outlaw you cant put a 400 series engine in it. outlaw will not allow a big motor in a little rearend. now freese, ulmer, and antip all have 706 rearends and can make weight but they are VERY thin to do so

Take a good look at Freese & Atnip's tractor. Freese has maybe 300 lbs of actual moveable weight and Atnip has at most 75 lbs both of them are at 6000 lbs. Ulmer is the only one who has enough moveable weight to fully use the potential horsepower on tap. He has 800 lbs of moveable weight at 6200 lbs.

I have a rearend section like Ulmers forsale Keith 402/750-8652

Re: what is the ratio and weight off a IH 706 rear end October 18, 2009 02:55AM
You mean it's a 706 rear end like Ulmer's?

Re: what is the ratio and weight off a IH 706 rear end October 18, 2009 12:55PM
Yes I have a cast rearend thats been all lightened up like the one that Ulmer has in the Weapon.

407 October 18, 2009 02:59AM
We have a 407 I think that a 706 rear end is 250 lbs lighter than a 856

Re: 407 October 18, 2009 12:32PM
Anyone else running a 407 is a good guy in my book!

Re: 407 October 18, 2009 03:07PM
Thanks 1206

Re: 407 October 18, 2009 04:29PM
blackstack, you aint got a set of big wristpin rods for a 407 do you?

Re: 407 October 19, 2009 12:35AM
Yeah, but they're currently in my engine. There was a for sale ad here a day or two ago, a guy had a set of big pin 407 rods, all reconditioned. Gotta say, I had to look a while to find my set!

Re: 407 October 20, 2009 11:15PM
whats the difference in pin size betueen the tworods?

Re: 407 October 21, 2009 12:52AM
Small pin 407 rods used a 1.5" wrispin. Big pin 407 rods used a 1.625" wristpin, same as a 400 series.

Re: 407 October 21, 2009 02:42AM
got a 407 in a 1456 with a stock rotary pump built to the max and bigger lines and injectors and stock turbo. it needs more air -any suggestions on what to run for a turbo with this setup to get a little more without breaking the bank??

Re: 407 October 21, 2009 03:07AM
Yep, put a 3LM-466 charger on it. One thing you'll have to do is look for a large turbo pattern exhaust manifold for the 407. Look for one off a 1206 or early 1256. You'll need to have a 1" thick spacer plate made to go between the manifold & turbo. Bolt that 3LM on there, modify the exhaust crossover & exhaust elbow to fit the 3LM, and go pulling!

Re: 407 October 21, 2009 04:08AM
Thanks! Could a guy use the 1456 manifold & just build an adapter while he was building the spacer plate?

Re: 407 October 21, 2009 04:35AM
Yeah, you can, or, you can sometimes get a custom 3LM-466 w/ a small pattern exhaust housing. Som Deere guys use a 3LM-466 w/ the small pattern rather than using a 55 series Deere manifold. Personally, I'd like the bigger 1206 exhaust manifold, for the flow.

Re: 407 October 21, 2009 03:26PM
we have about the same set up on our 407 and we use a holset h1 charger it is about the same as a 3lm 466 but it has the map rings and it will mount to the stock exhaust housing
