measuring cubic inch

How do organizations measure cubic inches on Pro-Farm (466 class) or on a Super Farm?
Are there different ways to do this? Does any organization do checks during the season?? (Ntpa, badger state) Thanks Future puller |

Something To See

PI thought they could check cubes after a few pulls into the season |
Re: measuring cubic inch

Did PI pump the 4x4 superstock trucks this year? They never checked our truck, but we missed the first few pulls. We are way short of the limit anyway.

Who's checking
|
Don't you think somebody should be checking this on a regular bases. And how do they check them??? |

Oh, yes, we want to be checking these on a regular basis.
Only ways to check diesel; 1) take a head off and measure bore and stroke 2) take oil pan off and check bore and stroke. |

wondering

just wondering why you have to pull the head or the oil pan wouldn't it just be better to pull an injecter and pump the moter |
Re: measuring cubic inch

I was wondering the same thing, Why can't they pump a diesel like they do gas engines? I think the rocker arms on the cylinder being checked have to be removed, or made so the valves stay closed in some way. |

Has to do with compresion ratio I think. (I know, some n/a 4wd's are in the 15 to 1 c/r area)
NTPA made Lustic take a head off, and that is an alcohol engine, so would have spark plug holes,, one thing the pump has adapters for. How you gonna hold the tester in some injector holes? Make an adapter for each injector style? |

they pumped the motors in Gordyville the first year in one of the classes. |

How accurate are the pumps? A few cubes?? 10 or 20 cubes?? Never seen one used.. |

Had mine pumped this spring at a pull and measured within less than 1% in error. In fact hit the cubes dead on. Very impressed. |

where can u get one of these pumps to check cubes? |
Re: measuring cubic inch

Precision Measurement, San Antonio TX $1000. 670 CI
Speedway Mortors Lincoln Nebraska $1049 670 ci Had ours for about 7 years, pumps to within a couple ci Just Google cubic inch tester |

HDP

Is that 670 cubic inches for an 8 cylinder engine, or 670 cubic inches per cylinder?
If it is for V8, wouldn't "we" need the 800 cubic inch tester for the big diesels? (since you are only multiplying the result times 6 instead of 8, the 6 has larger volume cylinders). What do you do about injector adapters? |
Re: measuring cubic inch

info

We use ours for V-8 gas engines.
You take volumn x number of cylinders Place in TX has one for up to 800 ci $1150 I would imgagine you'ld have to make adaptors for differant injectors. The adaptors we made needed to have a 3/8 hole thru them to retain accuracy lager or smaller will throw it off. |

can beat pulling the pan and measuring bore and stroke.. |

kill 2 birds with one stone

Pulling the pan rather than pulling the head upon protest was brought up at the orvtpa spring meeting, And low and behold one of the nitrous hot farm pullers jumped up and said oh no we cant do that ,That wont work! Go figure |
