Case powershift

I was wondering if anyone has or does run a Case powershift trans. in a pulling tractor that hopefully would have about 450 - 500 HP. Thanks for the info. Or maybe Knows of one. |

This topic has been addressed in ytm.com (yesterdays tractor). The big series 1370 etc, powershift could be massaged to withstand 500 hp, at weights up to 18000lbs. Part is increasing internal pressure and their may be a modification necessary to the clutch, like notching the torque plate to lock it down to the flywheel----post your question under the Case tractor forum, and also the tractor pulling forum, but I believe the info was posted on the Case forum by an NTPA puller, from knowledge of his farm stock pulling days. |

We had to bolt the torque limiting discs directly to the flywheel. (which was mentioned) We also put in 1570 clutch packs. This has been more than 10years ago but I believe there are a couple extra clutches in 1570. I have also heard that with some machining to the housing you can fit 90 series 4wd powershift in. We never tried it. We went to a 1175 chassis to get away from it. |

Mr Carl Downs I was wondering why you changed to the 1175 |
Re: Case powershift

1175 has a straight 8 speed (no powershift) and I think the trans/diff is a bunch lighter. |

Well I dont know why he went from powershift, but i know why we did. Whole lot easier to put a double disc clutch and build the power to pull one gear than trying to make powershift hold and then hope you shift at the right time so you dont just spin out right there. What we found after bolting the torque limiter solid was when you shift it would just slip right there. If you stayed in gear it would hold but couldn't handle the shift. In response to toolz, I dont think the 1175 rear is lighter than a powershift because of the planetaries. A 1070 8 speed is probably lighter than a 1070 powershift. |

Case- Didn't really know the weight difference, just assumed the 1175 rear was lighter based on a friends' 1570 being 1200 lbs heavier than my 1175 (farm stock). Didn't know where all the extra weight was. |

Oh yeah a 1570 would no doubt be heavier, but that is a whole different animal than a 1070. Guess i wasnt sure which one was being reffered to. |

We were making a right around 500hp and we were not sucessful with getting the powershift to hold consistently. Changed to 1175 chassis and put in a clutch. |

there is a case pulling up here in ontario called mental case owned by Jason Reid .it sure makes at least 500+ hp and likely a lot more ,does not shy away from using the powershift at all. they made him put a blanket around the trans.not sure why? you can see a picture at cotpa.org. sorry don"t know his contact info. |

We did it years ago in a 1370. Had to run a bigger hydraulic pump to get more volume, that made the biggest difference. |

Back in the early nineties, late eighties in west central illinois pullers there was a case I believe had a powershift.I think that tractor was built by Dan Dexter. |

Dan Dexter is out of wataga Illinois he owns and runs an implement dealership in monmouth Illinois. Also elmer haug the owner of the case temptation pulling team out of kansas has been pulling cases for years. I too run an 1175 but I took off the rear cast centers and put on presses steel wheels that I had to get custom built by titan wheel in quincy Illinois. I can and do pull in the 10, 000lb class. Hope this helps. |
