5.9 Cummins December 26, 2009 02:03PM
Anybody using a 5.9 cummins 12 valve motor in a Single Turbo Prostock (Diesel). Just wondering what size of charger it could turn and what a reasonable HP number would it be good for ?

Thanks

there are rumors of them turning 4+ in chargers as a single.who knows.also 1200 hp is a realistic number depending on turbo and fuel system.just my thoughts.

There are 4-5 single charger 5.9 Cummins powered tractors pulling with MSTPA and MMTTPA in Missouri. They pull at weights ranging from 5700-6200.Heres Jeff Dobbs from the Lebanon,MO area on his Cummin For Nuttin White.

there is much debate what is better.like anything else, how much money do you want to spend.contact woodruff diesel.they are building some pretty stout 5.9 cummins. woodruffdiesel.com

I belive swampy is right. I vaguely remember reading a post on Competitiondiesel.com, about a truck spinning a 4"+- charger. To the best of my knowledge, most of the high horsepower pulling trucks are using the 12 valve head. You can put a 24v head on a 12v block. The 24v is supposed to breathe a little better and be less prone to cracking. You can also put a P-pump on a 24v engine. Stay away from blocks that have a "53" cast into the driver's side. They tend to crack in the water jacket, regardless of horsepower.

we made 1250hp on a 3X4 charger with a intercooler on our 5.9

theres rumors of people using 4in but I know of a 3.6 with an E turbine working on one for a fact again with an intercooler.
