Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 02, 2010 12:36PM
Great shots, Nemisis was "super" lite mod. Jim Lyons said he was pulling Ken-Ten 4wd with a Dodge van, with a dually axle in the posted pic, thanks for taking time to post the shots.

art,is this the truck in question January 02, 2010 12:57PM
passed over this cause i thought noone would care.its a dodge 4wd with dually wheels.i had a dodge van that was a one ton,it got about 6mpg on a good day.

Speaking Of Stitches January 02, 2010 01:36PM
What ever happened to Jim Lyons that pulled the Stitches trucks?

Re: Speaking Of Stitches January 03, 2010 05:04AM
Lyons still builds motors, 7 days a week, in Louisville, KY. Alky pullers, drag racers, roundy/round boys and an occassional Monster Truck show up at the shop-----is currently putting his twd back together, should be out some this summer.

Jim Lyons January 03, 2010 10:05AM
He pull a limited light super from time to time

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 17, 2010 08:24AM
Do you have any pics of Fillingames' old Moline? Thanks a lot.

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 03, 2010 06:09AM
The Redneck 1066 is Sonny Crutcher out of Paris,Tenn,The 3688 is Richard Kalisek from Corunna,Mich.I remember both of these tractors.

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 03, 2010 06:26AM
pulling power had a beautiful full page color pic of the redneck tractor.i thought the '88 was kalisek's but wasn't sure.im going to scan some more pics after the steeler game and try to post them tonight.i will try and look for some mini pics to throw in too.

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 03, 2010 12:18PM
Thanks for the pics- Most of us either don't take the time to use the camera, or don't keep the pics when we do. So where do you think all these tractors ended up? I'm sure most of the mods were taken apart to make others, but what about the SS/PS tractors? You think they were updated along the way, or are they sitting in the back of the shops?

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 03, 2010 03:29PM
I bought the old big orange allison about ten years ago. I took the allison out for the Warhawk that I run and put a v8 in the frame and it still pulls today as the sassy massy with the NeTPA.

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 04, 2010 02:42AM
toolz,I would say that you are correct about most mods being parted out but there are still several around from the early 70's.dirtfarmer just mentioned that the Musicks M Farmall 427 mod from the early 70's is still intact.

I have heard of several old SS pulling tractors from the 1970's-80's that are still sitting complete in sheds. They say that Don Nolan in Ill still has his MM's and that Don Wiss from MO has his MM.I've heard of others but cant confirm them.Lots of tractors have changed hands so many times that I've lost track of them.

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 04, 2010 03:51AM
im pretty sure dallad mohler's old pro stock is sitting in a barn , somewhere near canton ohio.ive also heard howard antrim has a few old mods sitting around,he is near canton ,ohio too.the last i heard, dick book and jerry brown still have ,the harlansburgh horror,ih pro stock, schulers probably still have super moose too.last year a gentelman in our town passed away that had a ck-40 with a 427 in it,some of us guys got together and cleaned it up and took it to bg last year for the museum, checkmate was the tractors name.the tractor got a plaque for participating in the museum, seeing his family there, was very special to them, and giving the plaque to his wife was a touching moment also.

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 04, 2010 07:20AM
Yea there is some Iron sitting around in barns in Nebraska as well, If i remember right there are couple mods out there too In Wyoming, Ia Hope, Mn Sterling Co. It would be interesting if there was a book or website like someone mentioned in post above for the History of our sport. Also include sled's

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 04, 2010 07:54AM
hot rod magazine does a pictorial once a year about barn finds, with the actual picture of the vehicle in the building.after the weather breaks i'll try and run down some of the tractors that are local to me.

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 15, 2010 02:52PM
unknown 3 is Richard Kalisek from Corunna, MI. He still pulls antique div. 3 with an M, Div. 4 with another M and V8 hot rod with a 450/Chevrolet. I believe this tractor is now owned by Larry Getz in Ohio.

i will find out if that's jack grant's IH my dad pulled with him, jack was a great man!

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 02, 2010 01:06PM
That picture you have of the Kohl's is really Earl and Ezra Dunn of Battle Creek, MI.

could this be the kohls tractor ih-856 January 03, 2010 04:16AM
every time i seen these tractors,i couldn't believe how good they ran.there were plastic jugs ,3 or 4, under the hood.never did see a name on them though.the tractor with the 23" tires hooked ss,the tractor with the 45" tires hooked pro.

Re: could this be the kohls tractor ih-856 January 03, 2010 04:24AM
number 5 shows that there were no cut tires on this tractor,im guessing early 90's.

Re: could this be the kohls tractor ih-856 January 03, 2010 04:51AM
I never saw them in person but do know that they pulled a pair of good running 856 IH's. I'm partial to the 06 and 56 series IH tractors.I'm betting these are the Kohls. Keep the pictures coming.

Re: could this be the kohls tractor ih-856 January 17, 2010 02:09AM
I think that last picture (-4) is Mouse's Toy out of Wooster, Ohio????

Re: could this be the kohls tractor ih-856 January 17, 2010 05:31AM
do you mean the 06-56 series ih with the homemade grill and holes chopped in the hood.

Re: could this be the kohls tractor ih-856 January 17, 2010 08:43AM
Nope, the last one, the '66 series with the picture of Mighty Mouse on the side. I could be wrong, haven't seen that tractor in years! BTW, all these pictures have been great.

Re: could this be the kohls tractor ih-856 September 22, 2014 01:51PM
Yes, those are the Kohl's 856's. There were good friends and I helped them farm and pull tractors back in the 1980s and early 1990s. Dale has past on, but Gary still farms.

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 02, 2010 01:16PM
All that work then to put the tires on backwards!!! Must of been a long nite of thrashing....

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 02, 2010 12:37PM
Thanks patches.I'll keep looking as long as you keep putting them up.I've been off work for 2 weeks now and its been to cold to do anything,so tits been enjoyable to see all the old pictures. Its back to the old grind on Monday.I'm the only one interested in pulling in my family so all my pictures will be tossed when I'm gone. Anyone is welcome to save my old pictures.

We need a website devoted to 1950's-80's pulling pictures with information about each driver and tractor.Your idea of a convention sounds interesting.Theres tens of thousands old pulling pictures out there that need to be shared..

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 02, 2010 12:45PM
the convention would be really neat, even small time like a state gathering.when looking at automobile racing history,it can be traced back to the first race and the placings.the gentelman that made our pulling history, are getting to be less and less each year.probably in another 25 years the early days of pulling history will be forgotten, all except for family gatherings at vthe holidays.

Lots of us are looking at and saving every old picture that comes on here. Not all of us have pictures or even got to see these pullers. You can tell that the traffic is heavy because I cant even get the pictures to open right now.

Patches, I enjoy your old pictures thanks for taking the time to post them, as a kid I wasn't smart enough to take a camera along and take pictures. I just dreamed of someday owning a pulling tractor, since I turned 50 that dream has come true.

Thanks for posting the pictures....that is the first time I have seen a picture of Walton's D-21 in over 15 years.

Re: Walton D-21 January 03, 2010 02:56AM
Patches, I am loving the pics.. I have never seen anything like them.. I am too young to know what pulling was like even in the 80's.. I love seeing what it was like before all the saftey, and whatnot.. Really, Really Cool!! Keep them coming please! Smiling

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 03, 2010 08:59AM
Hey Patches thanks for bringing back some great memories. Your photo of the "Red Baron" sitting on John's trailor brings it all back. In 1982 when John won the 9 & 12 I was there. See I worked at John and Connie's elevator "Grain Land" when I was a kid and as a bonus I traveled all over the usa with John from 1980 till 1984. I have done my fair share of washing, waxing, and throwing weight on that tractor. Sadly they are just memories now. It was awsome to sit at a table as a teenager and be with Thompson,Dean,Sullivan,Klug,Hileman,Hutch,Harness. Once again thanks!!

Re: old pics 1-2-10 January 04, 2010 08:23AM
This stuff is really interesting to me being a puller in todays world. Things have definatly came a long way in the way of power and performance, but if you ask me, it looks like the late 60s and 70s were the "Glory Days" in pulling and I wish I would have been there to enjoy it. (Not that I don't thoroughly enjoy pulling today!) I have always thought that it would be neat to pull some of the old pulling machines out of the shop, restore them back to the condition they were in at thier last hook and do some nostalgia pulling. They do it in drag racing, why not truck and tractor pulling. Allen Gaines brings out the Orange Blossum Special from time to time and fans really enjoy it. Just an idea, wouldn't it be neat to see some of the the old mods, super stocks and pro stocks back on the track so that we younger pullers could get a glimpse of the real "Glory Days"

Re: US FARMER is the name pg 9 pics January 15, 2010 07:05PM
Thanks Patches for all the pictures, been hearing about them for a while now,but as we all know this page was down.So i am just getting my first look at all your old pics.On this thread in your post called page 9 the tractor you have listed as the US Army is actually called the US Farmer. It was owned by Wesley Black of Greenfield Ohio and was a CK 40 with a 481 Rodeck engine. The chassis is Dick McPhersons old Tricky Dick tractor when Dick built his new twin engine mod.Wesley ran the NTPA gn, Region II, OSTPA and a lot of TNT pulls back in those days. This was his last tractor he ran.He had quit pulling for a few years and put this one together, his old tractor ended up with Jesse Pendleton also from near Greenfield Ohio and was called the Piddler.

Also the twin engined mod tractor with the Pepsi named Weekend Warrior was and is Larry Whissels and he is from around Zanesville Ohio.He later had this tractor set up for 3 engines and ran the OSTPA circut. He was out this past summer and ran the new light mod class with 2 engines and did very well from the results i heard and read.

Thanks again for posting the pics, those were my most favorite days of pulling and love the trip back in time. Please post some more when you feel like it.Thanks Randy.

mighty mouse I-H January 18, 2010 04:16PM
If not mistaken the Mighty Mouse International was run by Carmonny Dairy Farms from the Wooster,Ohio area An early pro-stock. Heard tell it's been converted to a hot stock tractor with a new owner in eastern Ohio.
