Rim Widening for 18.4-38 Powersavers January 15, 2010 05:47AM
I have a set of 18.4-38 powersavers (30% field/road worn) that are on 16" wide rims. I have pulled with bias tires on widened rims but does a wide rim really help you when running radials? The widened rims help get more cleat on the ground for a bias, and I believe it really helps there, but I can't see much benefit when running a wider rim with a radial. Can you run lower or higher tire pressure with a radial with a widened rim? I would think a 16" or 18" rim would give the sidewall most support so you would keep your drawbar height better? I am wanting to paint the rims, but I'm debating on if I should widen them first, what do you guys think? Thanks in advance!!
