6.6 L Ford January 20, 2010 06:07AM
Is the 6.6 L (401 cu in ) Ford engine out of a truck worth working on? I have one and am curious of the durability

Isn't the 401 truck engine is the same as the 8000/9000 tractor engine?

NO not the same similar to the 7.8 except lower deck height and internal dimension as for crank swing like a 401
the 6.6 truck has no oil filter base and has front cover and a P-pump
It will have heavier rails along the bottom of the block where the oil pan bolts to and a bottom mount oil pump
and will have an 8 bolt crank

there was on rare 401 that was like the one in the tractor except that it has a P pump with with that front cover oil filter on side of engine like tractor 7.8 head and 6 bolt crank
I have that engine and regular 401's 456's and 474's
