3LM vs. Holset January 21, 2010 01:45PM
I always here everyone talking up the Schwitzer 3LM turbos for farm stock pulling on a IH 1066. Whats so great about them. I have also heard some fuss over a holset turbo. I can buy a 3LM for about $500 and i see a holset at least twice as much, is it really worth the extra money for the holset? What do you think?

3LM's are decent, but mainly it seems that a lot of guys have them because a stock housing is required in some areas.

i would definetly go with a holset. tractors with a holset seem to be alot stronger than 3lm tractors

we have run both of the chargers. And from our experience the holset is a better charger. even if you have an intake limit the holset has map rings that give you move air than the 3lm.

How much fuel does it take to keep a hx 50 lit vers a 3lm?
How big is a HX50 intake wheel?
Basically the rereson I ask is we are limited to a 2.3 wheel.

I have a brand new in the box HX50 with a 22 housing on it for $900.00 no core required I also have a few different housings for it as well. Keith Backer 402/750-8652

I,m a new puller trying to figure turbo sizes out. what size need, how turbos are sized, I know intake and exhaust wheel dia. are important {3x3,3x4} how do map rings work? what does cubic inch change, I have a 3lm with 2,9 intake wheel on, I think 2.41 or 3.15 exhast wheel which ever is larger. Want to use on 456 ford farmstock 500cc simms . will this turbo work , if so how well? what kind of boost? what is the difference between 3lm,holsetHX50 ,HX60/ I know alot of ? trying to figure out. all help welcome. THANKS

should work fine...boost well depend on air flow through the head big # on boost doesnt mean more power lower # means it is free up... u want ur boost & exhaust pressure to run even not inverted. HX60 is a 3 by 3.5 charger...

450 to 500 cc and think u can get a 50 in diff air size wheels i have seen a 2.5 and a 2.75

Does anyone have any part numbers for the larger hx50's 2.75 and i think there's like a 2.9 also exhaust housing numbers would be appreciated?
