case 970 January 22, 2010 09:07PM
wanted to get started in farm stock pulling and was wondering if a 970 case would be ok to start with?would like to go with case but wasnt sure on this model. Can I put a 504 in this model or I will I destroy the rear end?and I am I missin somethin, in pics it doesnt look like it has any frame rails?

A 970 will be a fine. A 504 will bolt in and you will not tear the rear up, they will handle a lot of power. No it will not have frame rails. Very few 70 series do and it was more part of the extendable weight bracket than it was a frame rail.

I guess two more questions, where does an 1175 fit in in the 70's series?and can I make a power shift live in farm stock?

Re: case 970 January 23, 2010 06:34AM
The 1175 was a tractor that was in the middle of the pack between the 1070'sand the 1270's. There was an 1170 but it was basically the same as an 1175 the only difference is all 1175's only had an 8 speed transmition instead of the opptional power shift. It had a turbo charged 451 like the 1170 and 1270's.

As far as your powershift goes you are going to have to crank up your pressure going to the tranny. Then there is the issue of how fast you get to go if it's "no speed limit" 3rd gear is to slow and 4th is hard to start without abusing your C1 pack. Good Luck!!!

1175 was a 451 turbochaged 8 speed only with planetaries on the axles. Its a very stout setup. We messed with a powershift for a while but it would always slip when you shifted. Couldnt see the future in trying very hard to make it work, just went with straight 8.

I ran an 1175 in the super farm class. Had 640ci on a stock rear end w/ the planetaries. I liked the planetaries because the tractor always went straight, I never had to touch the brakes. I highly recommend not running the power shift. The 970 will work fine but you may want to look for a 1175.

Re: case 970 January 23, 2010 09:02AM
That is fairly true, we had to use the brakes several times last year (stock 1175 rear). It will be needle bearing this season. I suppose it depends on how much wear is in the differential and what kind of power is being put to it. Farm stock yeah It would probably always go straight.
