DT466 in IH 706 February 11, 2010 07:43AM
I can get a good 706 w/o 3 point and am thinking of making a pulling tractor. The friend of mine who told me about it suggested putting in a dt360. i realize this would fit better but there aren't many classes i could pull in and do well. What would I have to do to put in a 466? I plan on using 66 series sheetmetal if i can get this to happen. Has anyone done this before?

If your going to use 66 series sheet metal just switch your frame rails and front end over to a 66 series style and the motor will bolt right up to your stock 706 housing

I've heard you need a plate that fits in between the engine and housing. Did you have to use that?

nope, not plate, were actually still running the stock frame rails, just had to do a little cutting to make it fit with them. but the motor will boltright up

you must use the stock engine plate from a 414 or 436. will bolt up to dt 466. you can use truck frout cover by putting a support under the frame rails.

now i see where you got thet idea. we still have to find a class for it.

just switch out and use a 66 series bell housing then the rear enginre plate will be smooth along the side ..note the extra meat of metal from the frame rail bolts to the outside edge it is wider on a 66 than on a 06 ... IHSMOKE

13mm fuel pump minimum .093" injector lines36" 5 hole .018" injectors 3lm turbo or comp turbo with put you with the rest of the farm altered unless they allow A pumps then you will need the next step up combo. Any back plate off that series tractor engine will have the same bolt pattern as your tractor. m-1466 and 86 series all have the same bolt pattern to transmission, but the out side is wider in the later models. One more thing to do is install a hyper head gasket. It will require removing the liners and cutting a small amount of the top of the sleeves to compensate for the wire ring, but with save blowing gasket later.A lot more tricks out there, but this will give you a starting point.
