ROCKSHAFT COVER ON IH 66 February 24, 2010 06:42AM
I HAVE A EARLY 1466 AND THE RING GEAR CARRIERS ARE OILED BY A TUBE ON TOP THAT GOES TO BOTH SIDES. THE LATER ONES HAVE A TUBE FROM THE PINION FEED. WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT BY GETTING PLATE MADE. HOW WOULD I FEED OIL TO THE CARRIERS WITHOUT TEARING ALL APART TO UPDATE? OR AM I SCREWED? THANK YOU

I took the tube out of the rockshaft, had a cover made that had roughly a two inch rise so it could be bolted down and I put the tube back in. Made a little "doghouse" in the front where the oil comes out of the housing and into the rockshaft. That way the tube could still be used.
