Crank ? March 03, 2010 12:52AM
What is the advantage to runnin a dt 466 crank in a deere block? What is the stroke on a dt 466 crank? Thanks in advanced.

Re: Crank ? March 03, 2010 01:49AM
IH crank is 5.350 stroke. Deere crank is 4.750 stroke. IH crank has more counter weight to begin with. putting a IH crank in a deere at stock bore size will put you a 525 cubic inch.

AND--your block will be a lot lighter after you grind out all the metal to make it fit!!!!! LOL!

Re: Crank ? March 03, 2010 10:30AM
Dont most people stroke the jd466 crank and use IH rods

Re: Crank ? March 03, 2010 11:53AM
Have been told JD crank does not do well with welding and offset grinding-tends to snap with dramatic results! am sure others can add?

Thanks for the info

Re: Crank ? March 03, 2010 01:43PM
if you are going to put forth the effort to put an IH crank in you should consider a 6.7 cummins crank, or 9L crank

Re: Crank ? March 03, 2010 02:48PM
6.7 crank is about 2/3rds the leangth of a 466 deere now a 8.3 has been used IIRC

Re: Crank ? March 03, 2010 10:08PM
I am sure none of the above is an easy job, but which crankwould be the best to go with if one was to attempt such an endeavor?

Re: Crank ? March 04, 2010 02:54AM
The 466 John Deere cranks that drive the oil pump have a big flaw with number six rod main. The gear inside diameter is smaller than the crank stroke and the gear registers right againt the rod journal. This leaves number six rod journal without total engagement of the throw arm of the crank. This leaves a very weak connection point where all the rest of the crank is delivering power thru. The more you stroke it the less the journal is connected to the throw arm of the crank shaft. Also the if I remeber the bolt size correctly the nose of the crank has a 5/8" bolt thru the center of the 1 7/8" diameter nose this does not leave the much support for the big dampers that suppliers are selling.

Also the welding is not the problem if the process is done correctly the crank will be as good or stronger than it was from the factory.

What about the IH crank???? big job to put one in a deere block????

Re: Crank ? March 04, 2010 01:52PM
I know some of the best running super farm AC's have binder cranks in them. Don't see why it wouldn't work in a deere, unless the overall length causes a huge problem.

Re: Crank ? March 04, 2010 03:22PM
Ih crank is really close. will actually fit right in, but have to do so machine work for the thrust bearing.

Re: Crank ? March 04, 2010 03:30PM
Precision Auto Machine in McMinnville,TN had a fresh JD engine with an IH crank in it sitting in the floor last time I was up there.

Re: Crank ? March 04, 2010 10:24PM
anyone have a phone number for them??? anyone know of a placce that would do the machine work in lower NY or northeast Pa?????

Re: Crank ? March 05, 2010 01:00AM
