How Many cc's of fuel do I need to be competative with a 640 cu in super farm?

Re: fuel needed March 14, 2010 04:49AM
850

Re: fuel needed March 14, 2010 04:59AM
4.1 limited pros with a 640 barely use that. 550 would be more realistic.

now I don,t know what to do? right now I run around 700cc with an 3.5 inlet charger on my 401 and I am about to bump it to 800, now you tell me 550 for a 640 ci. is enough? oh my head hurts LOL.

Re: fuel needed March 14, 2010 02:03PM
Fuel setting is based on how much air is running through the motor. You said a 3.5 inlet the other said a 3x4 both of which will move more air than a sf charger.

Know from dyno experience that most SF's out west (slotted charger, intercooler, 640, etc...) are in the 8-900cc range. 550cc was several years ago. Turbo and wheel technology and injector work has been some of the major factors.

Stoneking, you would make a good detective.
Sasha, very informative reply.
thanks to all. jr

A 466 with a 3x4 turbo can run 700cc with a P-pump.

Re: fuel needed March 14, 2010 06:17PM
I was told by one competitior in SF at Murfreesboro, that he had a pump capable of doing 700, and was only using about 500. And he did pretty darn good.

Re: fuel needed March 15, 2010 01:48AM
my pump is supposed to be at 800cc,and i was told that was not enough.

Re: fuel needed March 15, 2010 03:30AM
Who said 800cc is not enough and what qualifies them to give this info as fact?

Re: fuel needed March 15, 2010 03:46AM
depends mostly on setup airflow and so on, no one can tell you exactly how much fuel you need, it also depends on the amount of water your running.

Re: fuel needed March 15, 2010 05:09AM
geeze...
There is one important point when talking pumps, that you guys have left out, which is TIMING.
So you need a certain amount of fuel to make power. 70cc of fuel equal about 100 hp - if it doesn't smoke black. Black smoke is unburnt fuel.
But you also need to be able to inject your amount of fuel quickly. That's basically where the tourque comes from and why everybody wants a fast (a lot of fuel in a given amount of time / degrees) pump.

So you should go out and ask, which pump will give me the most fuel per degree and not how much fuel you basically need. For 550 cc you don't even need a modified pump but can get along with a P out of a combine harvester. But that wouldn't do it, as it would take too many degrees for it to inject that fuel and you'd be lost in the back of the pack.
