9.0 Liter crank in 466 deere block??? March 23, 2010 01:27PM
I have heard of this being done, easy or hard? is it worth the effort for a 3000 rpm class thanks to all

Its do-able.. shouldn't be much different than putting a 8.1L crank in a 466 block.. The mains is the big issue.. You'll either have to turn down the crank to match the 466 mains.. (or you could try line boring the block?? ) You'll have to clearance the cam for the rods.. (9.0 has larger rods + the added stroke.) The 9.0L cam is clearanced, but you can not use the 9.0L cam. (the valve pattern is different.) You'll need the 9.0 rods, sleeves and pistons.. or all custom parts..

will the 9.0 sleeves and pistons drop right in? how many cubes will that make me? how many cubes if I went with 4 3/4 bore sleeves and pistons? what is the stroke on the 9.0 crank? sorry I do not know alot about the 9.0 engine

i could be wrong but i thought the rod bearings were same size, just the 9.0 has shorter rods.

Bore mm (in.) 1168 (4.70)

Stroke mm (in.) 136 (5.40)

Displacement L (cu in.) 9.0 (549)

They will drop in.. You won't get much more by going to the 4.75 sleeves.. I guess you could offset grind the crank and use 8.1L/466 rods, and custom pistons... The 9.0L pistons are one piece steel pistons..

tPuller, send me an email or PM,
Thanks,

JD 9.0L correct bore size is 4.661" and the stroke is 5.354" which makes 548 CID and the specs in the above post would make 562 CID.

Haha.. That figures.. I didn't even look at the specs.. I just cut and pasted it out of the TM.. They just rounded the values..
Thanks for the correction..
Bryan

From Deere.com (still not as accurate as above.)
GENERAL DATA
Bore x Stroke--in. (mm) 4.66 x 5.35 (118.4 x 136.0)
Compression Ratio 16.0 : 1

Well the size of the mains on a 8.1 are .500 or a half inch bigger than a 466. Turn the mains down make sure the are hard enough and run it!!!!!!
Use 8.1 rods, and pistons its easy and a stock setup makes about 16 to 1 compression should work great at 3000 rpms and makes 496 c.i.
