Is there really much difference in alcohols?? I specifically mean methanol vs ethanol. And the ethanol would take in any grain type alcohol. Thanks.

The only alcohol I drink is either labeled "Beck's", "Jägermeister", "Korn" or "Ballentines".

Thanks for the info but don't the Indy cars run on ethanol??? Is there any difference in cooling properties of methanol vs ethanol???

back to being serious:

Ethanol is the alcohol you drink. Methanol is pure poison and should be handled with care, goes directly into your blood through the skin ( I have seen one guy from russia who used to clean his newspaper printing machine with methanol - he lost a couple of fingers from that), when not burned properly creates formaldehyd (that's where the tears in the crowd come from if your mixture is off or when your engine is cold).

Ethanol has less octane than methanol
You need less ethanol to make the same power as with methanol (methanol will allow you to make more power tough)
Since you put less ethanol through an engine than methanol, you have less cooling effect - but not dramatically less.
Ethanol is supposed to be a lot more eco friendly than methanol (but those who care usually don't get the difference anyways).
Reason for that is Ethanol is usually created from plants and supposed to have a balanced C02 emission (the Co2 created when burnt was taken out of the atmosphere by the plant when it grew), while methanol is usually created from fossil rescoures (can be created from plants, too - but since methanol is a by product in the chemical industrieand plenty of it available, it doesn't really make sense to do that).
