Cheapest Big Cube IH Motor June 07, 2010 11:45AM
I was just wondering what people knew about the cheapest and easiest way to make a big cube ih motor with a stock 466 crank. Different rod and piston combos? I know back in the day people used to do this all the time just wondering how it was done.

In the long run belive it or not a 600CI Hypermax. They will have the parts in stock. The parts will be right. Bore the block and put it all together and off you go. Then if you are trying to win and push things you can get parts next day ups when you need them.

Anyone know what kind of machining went into doing this?

I know an easy way to make 570 cu. in. motor is to use john deere 466 rods and john deere 6030 pistons. The 466 rods and the 6030 pistons have the same size wrist pin. You have to do a little machining on the rods to get them to swing in an ih motor and you also have to install them the opposite way that you would in a john deere. You would have to bore the block for the larger liner

What do you use for liners?

You could use 6030, 5020 or 5010 liners but you would have to do a little machining to them. A better way would be to use Darton sleeves but they are a little more costly.
