question's for the 3000 rpm class
|
i was at tampico last weekend and i seen a very good running massy in two class's 3000 rpm a pump or smaller and also a 3000 rpm p pump or smaller my question is the motor i've heard was a 903 cummins was this a replacement motor for that tractor? can this motor be legal to pull in some 3000 rpm classes, and if so can someone put a dvt 800 in let's say a 68 series ih? |

The DVT 800 (as used in 4568, 4586, 4786) is prohibitively heavy, and notoriously a POS. Give it a try, but I doubt you would like it! |

i bet

I bet it was a perkins and not a cummins. Especially if they ran good. |

anything goes

Yes, the 1150 Massey had a 903 Cummins in it. This engine was originally put in the 4840 (4 wheel drive) Massey. It was never put in a row crop tractor. The 1155 Massey tractor at the pull had the original v8 perkins engine that came in that tractor.
From what I can tell the only rule enforced in the 3,000 rpm class is the 3,000 rpm limit. |

so if i get this right then future of some of these 3000 rpm classes will be whatever you can get in the framerails i always thought this class was a steppin stone for higher level of competion.so my question is what,s next catapillar motors in john deeres, international with mack, ford with a detroit, some where along th line we have to draw a line in the sand and say this is farm stock classes and if you modify your tractor a little to much thats where hot farm pro farm and other classes come into effect.i dont't have all the answers but this sport like any other sport there's a beginning to get the new people envolved i just hope we dont set the competion level to high new pullers means these sport has a future |

I've never heard of a 903 in a 1150 massey, thats a whole lot of moter. But they did put it in a massey 4wd, so I guess there just doing the same thing as the 619 guys. |

I'm no Massy guy but I'm pretty sure there is a big difference. Putting a 619 in a 5010/5020/6030 is not really any different that putting a 466 in a 966 or 4430 becasuse the 531 & 619 are the same family of block with slightly different components inside. It's like a 305 Chevy vs a 350 Chevy. With the Massy aren't you talking about going from a Perkins to a Cummins? Assuming Massy considers it an OEM replacement it would be more like replacing a 426 with a Detroit in a D21. |

There are many brush pulling organizations and self promoted events across the country. The rules that applied to that event were probably specific to a particular group. Any group of pullers can get together and say "this is what we allow for our show" and those rules might not be applicable to any other group in the country. So, to say a 3000 RPM class is the same in Ohio as it is in Indiana or even in the next county is erroneous.

I was just saying those guys are putting a motor in that was put in the massey 4wd, like the deeres. Not picking on anyone here. And also that would be like a 731 twin turbo in a 21. |
