Gear-Reduction Starter June 23, 2010 02:26PM
I've got a Massey Harris 55 pulling tractor with some starting problems...
The engine is so big and at so high a compression the old starter just doesn't do the trick. I've had multiple people tell me a gear-reduction starter is the way to go.

The starter is a Delco ML4309.

Two questions, 1. Where can I get one that will work for my application? and 2. Are there any other suggestions for getting this beast to start?

thanks!!

A 28MT Delco should do the trick. There are many variations and drives available for them. A good starter shop will be abole to build one for you. I have yet to see an engine that they won't start.
