15mm model 100 charge pressure July 18, 2010 10:36AM
I have a 15mm model 100. Runs good ,but not much smoke.I was running a holley 110,but ordered a lift pump that will pump 240 gpm. What pressure should i set it at? It is adjustable to 80 psi. Thanks for any help

I bet 35 to 40lb. would work. Put a smaller head on the motor and you will get more smoke. Ha HaSmiling

Make sure you are not trying to push through the built in gear charge pump on the tail of the main pump. If you haven't already you need a second line to bypass the gear pump. The gear pump can't keep up, hence the no smoke. I would assume you ment 240 gph not gpm, or that is one monster charge pump. 50-70 psi is plenty of charge pressure, just make sure you are maintaing it during the pull.

Yes 240gal per hour

By my math that is 4 gpm. (IF) you could use a gallon in 13 sec. that would mean you would need 4.62 gpm. (IF) you only use a half a gallon in 13 sec then you would need 2.31 gpm. This is all based on not having any return or constant flow, that would add to the amount needed.

Is that why i"m loosing pressure at mid track? Going from 85 down to 45. Don"t have gear pump bypassed. Loose power and no smoke. Changed pumps made no difference.

You can go about it however you like, but here is what I did. Drill and tap the stock filter base into the second filter, after the gear pump. This is where I put the charge pump line. If you have removed the stock filter setup you will have to adjust accordingly. It is as simple as putting a "T" into the line that goes to the head of the pump. Personally I liked to double filter all of my fuel.

So you"re going from tank to pump through filters, and tank to lift pump to secondary filter? Thanks, without lift pump I have about 45 psi That won"t run a big pump.

I'm not up on the 100 pump.. what pressure does the internal gear (charge) pump produce?
Thanks

I use a FASS "95" 12v pump bypassing the stock AMBAC lift pump. I tried 85psi and it runs better at about 65-70 psi

so you guys are saying that if it has to much pressure like 100 it will not preform as good as it whould if he ran more like 75 pounds.wil higher press make fuel push past head and return to tank.

I had trouble making too much pressure over 100 lbs. The Pump would take off wild and I would have to pull shutoff to kill it. We put pressure relief, bypass valve on pump to adjust pressure to 85 lbs down track.
