Deere 5010 weight August 16, 2010 01:12PM
How light can you get a Deere 5010? Is it possible to get one light enough to compete in a 8500lb class and still have enough moveable weight to balance it?

thier aint no hilljacks in your area that can give you a recipe for a slimfast diet?

Where should I feed the tractor the slimfast? Should I let it suck it through the turbo or do I put it in the fuel tank? lol That still didn't tell me how light I could expect to get it. At some point it will starve to death before those big bones lose anymore weight.

elderly deere, runs a 5010,in a 7500 classic ss,in ohio.there is another 5010 in ohio that has hooked at 7500,but i cant think of his name right now.

8500 is not possible without removing about everything except the engine/trans/rear. everything else would have to be custom fabricated of aluminum or other light weight material or removed completly. You can reasonably get a 5010 in 10000 class with a home made front end and all non essentials removed.

The nebraska tests list the base weight of a 5010 at 12900lbs. I would think putting it on a set of pressed steel wheels should loose 500lb. The hitch and rockshaft housing should be another 800 or so counting the quick hitch, draft link support and load shafts. Take another 500 off for a lightweight front end. Drop 150lb for the front cast piece under the fuel tank. I can see it looks like stripping one pretty good is necessary to get under 10000lb. How on earth can you get one to 7500? No sheetmetal at all and an egg crate to sit on? lol

Turn down the axle housings
use hollow axles
Lighten the bell housihg
machine out the rearend housing inside and out
remove any extra gears and shafts not needed
Alot of aluminum instead of steel
Takes alot of time and money to get below 8000#

Re: Deere 5010 weight August 17, 2010 04:44PM
we have on that weights 7900# with 200# driver and we did lots off striping

There is 2 5010's in ohio Elderly Deere and the other is owned by James Woods Turn the axel housings. aluminum frame rails, rear fenders, weld on hubs, pressed steel wheels home made front end, no need to hollow axels, remove stock brakes and put on some type of disc brakes, remove steering petalstole and build one out of aluminum im sure theres other cast parts that also can be removed. Both tractors have roll cages. The class they pull in is 7700# Classic Super Stock and pull with Central Ohio Tractor Pulling Association. So it is possible to get a 5010 under 8000#
