Lots of calls about the $20,000 purse and the diesel truck class purse. Yes we have a huge pull with a $20,000 purse with no addmission to watch. The 2.6 diesel truck class on Friday night and the open diesels on Saturday each have a $825 purse. Last year we had 350 hooks in a day and a half, give or take. Thanks, Keith

We generally dicide the day of the pull based on number of entries and quality of equipment for the purse in each class. This is what we have done for years at Viola so its a matter of how to divvy up the money. Some years a class will be great and the next it will be down and we adjust accordingly, with $20,000 purse it gives us a little flexability. Thanks, Keith

As long as we get the water pump in the truck the turbo G should make it to viola sat morning. Hope to fit in one of the classes.......lets remember this one normally runs 55 and 65hp classes so the 5500farm might be a bit of stretch for us. Gotta admit Steve's tractor is pretty damn neat! Hopen to drag along a bunch of MN tractors, what is the newest a tractor can be for your antique classes?

Re: Viola Truck @ Tractor Pull Sept. 24th @ 25th $20,000 Purse September 22, 2010 11:53AM
I sincerely hope that in the future this pull doesn't move the antiques back until 57. Just why are some people so threatened by the Farmall 460 and 560? It seems to be one of the Oliver guys who is complaining the most. What in the heck is the difference? They both have six cylinders. I say advantage goes to Oliver because they are lighter therefore much better for adding and moving the weight around. I chose the 460 because it is what i grew up on. I can pull on a Saturday and hook a haybine up and cut hay on Sunday. Many of you have seen my 460 run out of power or nearly so. Vernon county fair is the perfect example. I got 4th place which I am happy with. Never mind I just about killed the engine to get every inch I could. If I remember right the tractors that placed ahead of me went spinning by without hardly a drop in rpm's. Am I complaining about those tractors? NO. I just want to be able to continue to pull my favorite tractor. To sum up my thoughts. I hope "our" pulling community doesn't start the rule changing and creating to adhere to a select few!
If area pulls start leaving out the 58's you can bet I'll bring my bone stock John Deere A and let me tell you this. I am going to bring a tack and I am going to have problems with many of these "Older" tractors. And I am not so naive to think it's just an rpm game.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Chad, I personally haven't herd anyone complain about your tractor or any other 460. I made my comment based on what some other clubs run as a cutoff. I put our cutoff at 1958 because we have a couple 460 that pull with us and are competitive. None of this is intended to pick tractors out. Sorry if I offended anyone. Thanks, Keith

Re: Viola Truck @ Tractor Pull Sept. 24th @ 25th $20,000 Purse September 23, 2010 03:32AM
Thank you for the reply Kieth. I did a search on the net and as far as I can tell "most" antique clubs use 58 or 59 as a cut off. I have just heard one person in particular, whom I am good friends with do a lot of ranting and raving on how these tractors don't belong in the antique classes. Fired me up. I apologize if I got a little defensive. To move the date back would exclude these fine tractors. I realize some pulls have farm classes. From experience a stock 460 doesn't fair very well in these classes and never mind there are far more Antique pulls then pulls that have farm classes. I am looking forward to bringing my 460 to the antique pulls for years to come. I don't mind "donating" my money and hey, every now and then maybe I can pull off an upset!

Hey keith, what right do you have to possibly change the year from 58 to 57 on the antique? their has only been 1 460 pulling this year and it hasnt really posed a threat to anyone, you had better seriously think this through, or maybe we should state in the rules that your antique must run "STOCK" block and head from that model tractor, not a gleiner motor, a D17 motor and surely no powerblocks!! dont start a war without an army. and if it's Jeff fortney driving this issue with you, think about how many of "YOUR" pulls he supports, i suggest not pissing off the local boys who try to support your pulls.

Re: Viola Truck @ Tractor Pull Sept. 24th @ 25th $20,000 Purse September 22, 2010 12:39PM
Hey 560; I am a threat on blacktop. Just lucky enough to have the right tires. And we all know that with blacktop you don't need power. Maybe this is where the problem is stemming???

Re: Viola Truck @ Tractor Pull Sept. 24th @ 25th $20,000 Purse September 22, 2010 04:30PM
I have no problem running against chad's 460, and most other ones if there is a 1st gear rule and or a paceboard. I got blown out in readstown from the big boys cause they were able to sandbag. if they could only go 6mph, it would of been alot closer. one thing tho, is there are some of them that are spinning over 4000 rpms, with little to no safety equipment. I would be looking more in to that then whether or not it is an antique....

Lets get one thing straight, when you run the pull you make your rules and when I run the pull I make the rules. The current rule is the model must be manufactured in 1958 and I honestly don't know if I would ever change that. As for your motor issue, do you know that the D17 block is the replacement block for the small AC's and it is the same displacement as a wd45 along with the gleaner engine. I don't need no army to back me up, I will back myself up. For your information Jeff Fortney hasn't approached me on changing any rules. It isn't my intent to piss anyone off by helping run the pull but someone has to make the rules then govern them. Keith Durst

Re: Viola Truck @ Tractor Pull Sept. 24th @ 25th September 21, 2010 01:57AM
We will need 8 tractors in the 9000lbs open farm(excluding local tractors) or the 9500lbs open farm will be cancelled. If the class is cancelled we will pay 1.5 times our regular payout for the 9000lbs class. A 9500lbs local farm will also be added on Friday night. Thanks, Keith

Re: Viola Truck @ Tractor Pull Sept. 24th @ 25th September 21, 2010 01:14PM
Just wondering if you are running a speed limit on the Local farm 9500 on Friday and Saturday? What is the RPM limit? If there isn't a rpm limit we will turn ours up too so we can compete with everyone else. think it would be a good idea to check EVERYONES RPM's after they pull off the track for the local #9500. Just my two cents. Let us know. Thank you.

We have a few local tractors that pull together around our area that are more or less stock tractors with the fuel and rpms turned up. They are competitive amongst themselves but not your big cube or weekend warriors. We do have 9000 and 9500 lbs na open on Friday night for the tractors that don't fit our 9500 local farm. As a reminder the 9500 na open will be cancelled if we can't get 8 tractors in 9000 na open (excluding local tractors). Thanks, Keith

Thank you.

Tracy, there is no rpm limit or pace. Jerry and I did discuss this and agreed it would be paced before checking rpms. I heard Parr was interested in checking rpms as well so maybe the class will take it on themselves. If they do, it should be done after each tractor pulls. Thanks, Keith

No rpm limit in the 9500 local farm? why? none of these tractors are running any safety equipment, why would you do that? i know you think that by allowing this kind of @#$%& is making you new friends but in all reality your pushing away alot of pullers, and who are you to change these rules when they were set last winter in readstown? let's see, i can run open rpm's, which is a safety issue, but i cant lighten up by using press steel rims to make the 8500-9500 class be cause that wasn't factory. makes alot of sense!!!!

We look to have another great pull at Viola this weekend with a lot of iron. Friday night looks very heavy, therefore we will be starting at 6:30 sharp Friday night with stock gas 4X4 trucks. If you are a stock gas 4X4 truck be ready by 6:30 or you will be left behind, we don't have time to wait. Thanks, Keith

Re: Viola Truck @ Tractor Pull Sept. 24th @ 25th September 23, 2010 06:20AM
every little local pull has there own rules, i don't understand why they don't just all use the national antique rules and be done with it. then they would be cut and dry. that way it wouldn't be 10,000 questions about what the rules for the day are. my $.02

Just a reminder, stock gas 4X4 trucks start @ 6:30 pm sharp Friday night. Also, the track was covered on Wednesday so we are in great shape for the weekend. Look forward to seeing everyone. For any questions before or during the pull you can call me on my cell @ (309)826-4896. Thanks, Keith

Roger, When you run the pull you can do what you want. We had 35 classes and 370 hooks in a day and a half. Maybe we split this class in the future, maybe not. Thanks to all who showed up, we had an awsome turnout. Thanks, Keith
