5.9 Allky Cummins
|
future LLSS
|
Anybody running a 5.9 in the LLSS class? Do these hold up or do they need alot of work. Like a girdle? How do the heads flow? Or will it take alot of money to make one compete and hold together. I would think there are alot of parts from the truck pullers. How much of the stock stuff can you get away with? |

The Sipes family runs a strong 5.9 on alky, it did come apart at Lanesville In pull. I think a girdle would be a good move to keep that from happening. Here is a picture off of pulling depot

Looking to build a Case, but would need to destroke that. Wondering what would be easier and better, Case block or Cummins? witch would be cheaper for the power? |

Curious but what Case came with a 5.9? I thought it only came in CaseIH thanks |

somewhat aware..

The 5.9L Cummins was originally developed by Case to replace their older engine designs which has been in production since the 1950's. Development on the B series started in 1979 and the models 1896 and 2096 came out with these engines in 1984 with the white, black and orange paint scheme. After Case acquired the Ag division of International Harvester in early 1985, these tractors remained in production with red paint, filling the 95 hp and 105 hp slots until the Maxxum line was introduced in the early 90's. It was actually an after-thought to put these engines in pickup trucks although that is definitely the application which has had much higher production numbers. |

The girdle isn't needed on the 5.9 in the llss, the only reason we had the problem was from the crank breaking and it was 6 yrs old and who knows how many runs. |

1896 AND 2096 WERE THE FIRST TRACTORS TO USE THE NEWLY DESIGNED JOINT EFFORT BETWEEN CASE AND CUMMINS, CDC, CONSOLIDATED DIESEL CO. |

my opinion

I'M NO EXPERT BUT IT REALLY LOOKS LIKE THE MAINS PUSHED OUT THE BOTTOM CAUSING THE CRANK TO BREAK. JUST MY OPINION. |

Not tryin to be rude to my opinion but the Sipes are experts. I'm pretty sure Jeff is Larry Phillips' crew chief! |

Well, thanks for the opinion. Future LLSS, depends on how much money you want to spend on your parts. The head flows well, but you have to be willing to put time and money in it to get your best results. |

How much stock stuff can I use? I should get better pistons, Harden the rods, do I need better head, rod, and main bolts? I'm sure a better head gasket. Is the cam any good, I know Case cams don't hold up. What stuff needs to be billit? Still wondering what would be better Cummins or Case. How does the 5.9 head flow? Isn't a Cummins a replacement for anything? The 5.9 would be alot lighter. |
