JD 531 to 619? whats the difference??? September 28, 2010 10:07AM
OK guys without stating the obvious what is the difference between the 531cu and the 619cu deere engines? the obvious would be the cubic inches.....any way is it possible to turn a 531 into a 619? lots of work ? little work? if one was to do that would it be just as easy to keep going and go bigger? anyway u cut it I would be going for a 3000 rpm hot farm class. whats the opinions on this subject? thanks to all and thanks JAKE for the great site!!!!

Diff is bore - 4.75 for 531 & 5.125 for 619. To make this bore change they also changed the machined diameters in the block. So, if you machince a 531 block to accept the 619 sleeves you will have 619 cid. If you're familar with the difference between a 404 & 466 it's the same concept.

IMHO in a 3000 RPM class you need more stroke. Both 531 & 619 have 5" stroke which is less than the IH 466. When the RPM's are limited put in as much stroke as you can fit (and afford! Smiling )first.

Is the max bore (for cylinder sleeves) the same on the 531 and the 619?

I'm not sure what you are asking. Do you mean is the hole in the block that the sleeve fits into the same diameter? No, it is not.

If you mean the bore spacing & therefore the largest bore you can fit before the sleeves start touching, yes they are the same.
