dt466 pistons and turbo October 04, 2010 05:10PM
What would be a good compresion ratio piston to use in a 466, and what would be a good turbo to use with that it would be in a 3000 rpm 466 class.
thanks

I would like to know also

We have done a lot of trial and error on pistons. Our conclusion is that with valve reliefs cut in for cam on dt 466 with limited turbo such as 3lm compression at 16-16.3 to 1 was best ratio. Open rpms and bigger turbo you can start lowering the compression. Also camshaft degree can make a big difference in performance. Depending on the grind this is the brain of any engine and number one on the list of how to make horse power. Back to the piston just use dt 436 piston with dt466 crank cut off top, open bowel, remove cone in center and cut in valve reliefs. You will need older pistons for this, the new pistons have the top ring higher to raise compression and screw up availability for pullers! Right or wrong that is what we concluded.

Do i need to look for any particular serial number on the 436 pistons to get the ones with lower ring groves or do you have a mesurment on how far the ring grove is on the pistons i need and what would be a good turbo with that setup? What hp could i see with this at 3000 rpm?

If i use the 466 pistons and cut valve relief in them and use 3lm with model 100 pump 3000 rpm, who would do a good cam grind and also what kind of HP can i see with this setup, and do i need to do any work on the 3lm to make this setup work any better? thanks for the reply.

piston part number is 684255-c2 466t
I bought them new on ebay, every once in a while some place in California offers 12 at a time.
The camshaft we used came from Riverside Engines.
The turbo we had came from hyper max.
We had 13mm from diesel inj. in wisc. You can get one from fair valley performance.
We ran .093 inj. lines with 5 hole .018"
Advanced cam to I think 87 degrees.
Injection pump at 35-38 degrees.
Install hyper max head gasket with rings. (sleeves need to be cut for this)
Thicker push rods.
all the contact phone numbers are on here on the builders links.
need any other info call Floyd Isbell (570)637-1311
