exhaust routing
|
hi all,
was watching a pull last night here in ontario and i have a question about exhaust routing. the modified farm 10,500 and prostock had two exhaust stacks. one for i would assume for idle/low speed, then as soon as they were bumping up rpms and the turbos /water injection kicked in they exhausted at the forward stack, with flow still out of the rear stack,(could tell as they had the flapper on the stack). thanks for any input jordan |

thats probably the intake pipe you saw,the open flap is the air shut off |
Re: exhaust routing
|
with it closed wouldn't you be starving the motor? |

Some guys use a rain flapper on their air intake for a safety air cutoff with the cable or wire routed to the back where the sled operator can pull it or it would be pulled automatically in event that the sled were to become unhooked! I use a guillotine type shut off which accomplishes the same result! and yes if it were to close, you will starve the engine quite effectively! thanks for the question! |

Hi guys,
Thanks for the info. It does make sense what you guys are explaining about the air shut off to the intake compared to what I saw. The pull was the COTPA grand daddy in simcoe ontario. Which is held during the norfolk county fair. I am unsure as to what the winners were for each class but I will say I was really impressed by the 399 ft 5 inch pull by the 4055 john deere. I hope at some point to get involved in pulling but that will have to come later Regards, Jordan |

I guess having to pull against a twin charger tractor in the class wouldn't help that situation much either?
I didn't know you could have two chargers in your 7000 class?? Unfortunately it didn't matter, something went south (big bang) on it anyways. It sounded pretty good leaving the line though............... |

I should clarify that this developed years ago! had nothing to do with our US friends, was quite happy they came up to try their luck in erin and Simcoe ! I hope it wasn't too serious for this tractor you talk of?hope to catch up with you guys in the future, good luck! |

I think I understand what you mean now.
FYI, I was not jumping for joy that the US tractor had issues, as I said, it was sounding pretty good leaving the line. I just wondered if there was an exception for the two chargers or if they are allowed in your club now. Catch you another day Jim. Shawn. |

the idler gear that runs the injection pump broke on the cockshutt, there is a surplus of tractors on the us side and just looking for a place to pull in the fall and have been coming up and having a great time doing it for many years now. would someday love to see the 7000 pros come down to play with the wnypfp over the summers |
