repairing cast manifold October 25, 2010 05:15PM
Need to repair a cracked t4 cummins manifold. I have tig, mig, and stick available to me. I know pre heat and post heat are a must but want to know what rod and if there are any tips or tricks. Thanks

I have welded a very old cast manifold on a 1950's vintage d6 dozer with a mig using a good 3 gas mix, has stood up to many tree branches and yet to crack! I used to try repairing with nickel rod and the old arc welder but found the mig much less stressful!

MIG and stainless wire, works great.

Pre heat and post heat as well I'm assuming? Is it the nickel in stainless that makes it work well with cast?

Yes, preheat and post. Yes it is the nickel in the stainless that makes it work well.

I do ceramic coatings and price starts at $150 for 2000 degree protection. Give me a call or email and I will be glad to answer any questions.
