Speed up a 3010 October 26, 2010 02:21PM
Does anyone have any experiance with increasing the speed in a 3010 through the drivetrain. I am looking to but a 466 in a 3010, or 3020 to pull 5500-8500lbs open rpm. Lastly is one drivetrain better than the other, when it comes to 3010's or 3020's. thank you

I need something a little more substancial than bigger tires, I am hoping to be around 600 or 700hp, so I think I need something in the drivetrain to speed it up. I was looking to seee if anyone knew anything about the gearing in them. If there is a difference between the final drives or ring and pinion

i would say you better check the parts books at your local jd dealer to see if a stand tread was any different.

You need to try and get ahold of a guy named Mark Kassebaum (sp?). He used to go by MDK on here. I am not even sure where he is from. He had a 3010/3020 with a 4cyl Alky motor.

I am just guessing on this but i know the rear end case is the same on 3020 and 4020 so there might be a possibility of switching axles on a 4010 or 4000 to make it speed up. Not sure on this at all tho. Good luck see ya in the spring.

If the 3020 and 4020 cases are the same, 4010 final drives are about 18% faster than 4020's. So they should interchange. Go to JD parts online at there website and do some number comparing. 706 rears will hold hot farm power, 800+. Don't see why 4010 would.

Have you done all the math on it yet? Not familiar with JD myself, but it was probably set up factory to run 18-20 mph road speed with 15.5's. Jump to 18.4-38, and you gain alot. Double your RPM's and you are talking 40 mph, give or take, wheel speed. I doubt you would need much faster.

I don't think the 3010 will hold up to long under that kinda power, would go with a bigger trans!!

ran a 4010 in the 1980's with utility trans it was faster maybe find 3010/3020 ut trans/rear mine was 3010
