What pump do you have on the 8.1L..

The pistons themselves will last a very long time. The big disadvantage to the high ring piston is the top ring is exposed to more heat. So if you run very high intake and exhaust egt's like with no aftercooler they will lose their tension and cause lots of blowby in short order. Of course if it is a stock type 8.1l application they all have aftercoolers anyways so that helps a lot by dropping the intake temperatures 500deg it gives the piston a lot better chance of not melting nd doesn't overheat the rings as bad. |
