706 rear end weight

Using a 706 rear end an tranny with a dt motor what is the lighest you can get this combination too?Say with 18.4 or 20.8x38 on aluimin.Thanks in advance |

How much work do you want to do to the tranny??? I have seen an 806 gas pull 6000#, but he didn't have a full set of gears. He also didnt' have aluminum wheels, or roll cage, or tube frame. I think it will be interesting to see what others respond about how light they got, and how. |

We can make 5500lb with the 400 series and two turbos without much of a problem. I would think that someone could make 5000lb with no cage and smaller wheels and one turbo. I know of at least 300 more lbs that I could get rid of. It just starts to cost a lot after you get to this point. The basic lightened rear end, lightened bullgears, gun drilled axles and a stock trans should land you somewhere around 6000lbs empty weight. From there it starts to cost alot more in time as well as expense. |
