DT 466 February 23, 2011 03:09PM
Wondering what year and model would be the best to look for. We only need the block ,crank and head but would like to find the best series.

Just looking for the popular years to look for. What are most running.

Thanks

I am not sure of the year, but you want the one with the big lifter bore. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK that it is not the small one and do not take anybodys word on it if they are sellinga block.

Do you know which one the large lifter bores are in?

Looking at a mid eighties DT466. In truck.

Any id's on them anywhere.

Thanks

BLOCKS STAMPED WITH 467 OR 468 IN SERIAL NUMBER LOCATION UNDER INTAKE MANIFOLD WILL BE BIG LIFTER OR ROLLER BLOCKS.

I may be wrong, but are the big lifter blocks the ones with the breather in the valve cover?

Here's some of your answer February 25, 2011 10:20PM
I run a DT 466 block in my tractor. I can tell this, both blocks i have start out with 467 in the serial # and they are small { 1" } lifter bores. The block out of a mid 1992 IH 4700, 4900 truck has roller lifters. This is the year when they started puttig in rollers in 4700, 4900 trucks. I also bougt a 1988 DT466 with the inline pump, but the pump wasn't bosch and it had the big lifters non roller.

Someone told me if it has a rotary injection pump, it will have a small lifter bore, can't prove this therory. The first DT466 with in line injection pump could be either way in the first few years.

Hope this helps, PULLMX

I think you"re right mine is 467 small lifter also. The late 5488 inline pump tractors I think were large.
