Need helpful advice on building a 930 case February 24, 2011 01:17PM
I bought a 930 Case some years ago. It currently has a gas block in it. I'm pretty sure the rings are stuck. Its sat for YEARS before i bought it on a farm sale. It was the ol boys big tractor. Never had the duals off, never had the three point put on, orignal tires!! No Joke! has 900hrs on the tack! Anyway, was wondering if a 504 block would fit in it? I heard at one time to drill it out to take 830 pistons.? Its truely a blank paper and I'd sure like to start off on the rite foot. I'm not totaly in the dark, but around here its red or green, and a good Case man is damn hard to find! Thanks for any input. Hope to see you on the track. Patrick

Is the 930 a 6 speed, or an 8 speed? Neighbor has a dead 930 Diesel, and at one time I looked into swapping a later model 504 in it. From what I was told, it bolts right in. Biggest problem is the steering shaft goes thru the original block on a 930, so you either need to machine a hole in the 504 block, or convert the steering system over to something different & get rid of its current steering system. I dunno what you do for a heavier clutch & flywheel, but I'm sure they're out there. Call Elmers in Centralia, KS, they'll know.

504 will bolt up with a little work, steering shaft goes through block but I just drilled the hole, also front cast piece that bolts to front of block needs a little trimming. The pump linkage is on opposite side, manifolds bulge out hood some especially with big charger but overall not a hard swap.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what class you are going to build it for. Once that is established it is easier to decide how and what to do. An 8 speed 930 rear and bellhouseing works really well, it is easy to get parts and work with this rearend.

Thanks! We have a "hot farm" and "to hot to farm class" i was shooting to get in to those. It looks like it would be a blast! I use to pull my 1566 in the 15,000 17,000 and 18,000 pound farm stock classes and a a good time. It wasn't nothen special, turn it all the way up and let it all hang out!! We have a salvage yard just up the road, alot of case rearends minus engines. So gear train parts shouldn't be to hard to come by.
