1568 help.

A friend and I are looking to buy a 1568. it dynos out at 195 horse now. it has a DV-550 motor in it. what else can we do to get more out of it. thanks for the help. |

put a 466 in it!!  good luck there are some guys that have somewhat figured them out but it is tricky

v8's are awesome if want something out of the ordinary its the ticket. For power and winning it will cause a lot of heart ache. MF, Perkins v8 better. 903 cummins best. Figure out what you want to accomplish and have fun. Good luck!!! |

DO NOT TUIN THAT TRACTOR!!!! 1568 Are rare!! I dont know what you payed for it but dont chop it all up into a pulling tractor. you can buy a 1066 with a junk motor if puling is what you olan on doing. Just my thoughts |

The 1568 must be the most prized of the late model ih's, and that alone makes it difficult to suggest pulling one in anything other than a farm stock or a n.a. (naturally aspirated class), but the largest n.a. association I know of is in Illinois and has a 10000 and 12000 lb class, with a couple of 1468's pulling in past years. Another consideration, repairs to the 6 speed trans and that dozer sized rear end are high dollar items, even on stock tractors. You can get over 250 hp (at rated rpm)from the engine with some head work, injectors, lines and a built pump---and there is no such thing as a cheap 8 cylinder high performance pump!!! For the same funds, as mentioned above, say the cost of tractor, plus clutch mods and allowing say $6000 for performance engine upgrades (non-turboed) a 1066 with a junkyard 466 and and $5000 in upgrades would double the horsepower for the money, hands down. If you turbo, or twin-turbo the tractor, you run into rules issues, and with higher boost, the crank can be vulnerable. I believe John Raymond of the east coast, whom had the 1468 super farm, helped other pullers with parts, prior to his current John Deere machine. Ted Dibble of Binderlite, had one of the most infamous 1468's ever, in the 6000 pound super stock class----his tractor a single charger application, that was successful for him in terms of developing the 1468's potential and in developing the Binder Lite technology of of building light weight, dependable, professional grade sheet metal and frame applications. It's sort of like talking to a die in the woods John Deere man, even those that pull true 6030's, they tell you the easiest thing to do is find an old 5020 and start building, and some will steer you away from them alltogether (usually mentioning the 7500 dollar 8 speed 4430 on tractorhouse!) , due to the inherent issues they share with the 1568, HEAVY, RARE, AND ORIGINALS CONTINUING TO GROW IN VALUE. |

man i hate when anyone "dies in the woods" Makes it hard to find them, especially green pullers. It is easier to find them if you"dye their wool" orange |

As an old died with my wood deere puller I must say that a 1568 does not make a good pulling tractor. It takes to much stroke to make that v8 run hard. |
