12.5 Liter in a 5020 April 12, 2011 01:25PM
Anyone know of an aftermarket ECM that is programable or know of a way to reset the parameters in a JD ECM to run a 12.5 L ?

What wiring harness did you use?? The OEM harness would be the easiest.. and then get an ECU for an OEM application.. Its hard to make the tractor harness work, because its looking for the input for things like throttle from another controller.. So you need the other controllers. (its been done but not cheap)
If you use the OEM harness you can use the OEM Diagnostic gauge as a display for the engine parameters..

I don't know of anyone modifying the orginal ECU's..
I'd like to see some pictures of your project..

I haven't really gotten started , i have a friend that gave me an engine out of a burnt 9400 (4000 hr.) and i am trying to lay the ground work and see how much of a problem it is going to turn into. I have figured out everything except how to make the ECM do what i want it too. ex. 1500 hp @ 2950 rpm. I will have to use the deere wiring harness and sensors i just need to be able to set the parameters ,timing , rpm, egt, boost ect.

thanks for your interest

You could try and trade the 12.5L for a 10.1L and save a lot of hassle.

You might look at the Marine applications..

You want EFI Live for a John Deere.. haha.. I know what you want.. but like you, no idea where to find what you are looking for.. An engine distributor will have some selection.. (but not what you want..)

Last winter one of the Diesel Mags ( 8-lug,Diesel World,Turbo Power? Confused ) had a small article on 4 different stand alone computers for just what you want.

There's a company called Zeus that makes standalone computers ($3800) for 5.9/6.7L Cummins engines. I'm not sure what other applications there are for this computer.

Thanks for the input everyone. This thing may be more of a monster than i want to tackle.

With the OEM harness, controll panel, and contoller you can make it work.. but it will mostly be a farm tractor.. or farm stock.. maybe 500-600HP .. (That's just a stock rated HP.) If you could find someone with the ability to program the controller.. U know what is there.. (no idea how to get the HP.) (the OEM harness would be a standalone setup.)
