Dave Stangle (Solid Junk) passed away 4-20-2011 April 20, 2011 12:55AM
We were unfortunate to lose a pulling legend this morning. Dave Stangle, who piloted the G1000 superstock known as Solid Junk, passed away this morning after battling cancer for several years. He was a great enfuence in the sport for me and several others. He will be missed. Arrangements will be posted as they come available to me.

RIP Dave, I was lucky enough to watch him pull and talk to him in Elkhorn YEARS ago. What a asset to pulling.

No need to research it, that driver in the picture is another legend, Mr. Ron Perry himself.
So sad to hear of Mr, Stangle's passing. Those were truly pulling's finest hour in those days.
But it brings up some questions. Did Dave purchase the old G-1000 from Ron Perry or was he a driver, partner,
or what? What year did they retire it? I never recall seeing it with a wide front & believe that rule
came in for 1979 ? Whatever became of Dan Walsh's (also of Kewanna) G-705 & J.R. Herriot's
(Perry's partner in crime) G-1000? Rest in peace Boom Boom.

One of the pioneers of tractor pulling is gone...Rip Dave...I was fortunate to see him hook a few times in the 1970's..It would be fun to see the old G-1000 make a hook again..

Is the old girl still sitting in a barn somewhere or did it get used for something else? When Dave could get it to light off the line that tractor was great to watch. Real shame to hear of Dave's passing.

We must never let these pioneers be forgotten. The Perry/ Stangles, the Marsall Myre's, Noble Harrison's,
The list goes on & on. No Riverside, no Hypermax, or any of the others. Just a "let's try this & see what
she does" attitude, that built a sport.
