What is a good starting point on fuel and timing for my 466 JD pro field. Rules are 3000 rpm, p pump, 2.75 inlet on charger, water in jection, 18.4x38 cut tires. Looking for a starting point. Thanks |

Approximately how much water is needed on a pass? |

16 to 24 ounces, through a one or two nozzle (easier to adjust flow, atomize water) setup when you add more fuel, add more water---a cheap exhaust temp gauge would be a good investment---keeping temp under 1900 would extend engine life |

Will I want to start water as soon as charger lights or a ways down track? I am really appreciating the info. |

Most 'idiot proof' system would be a relay switch which brings on the water at full throttle---if you build boost slowly and let the clutch load the motor some in the hole, you should be ready to roll by the time the throttle is at full open. If you nozzle is too big, and you smother the motor, you can reduce the nozzle size on the relay switch, and add a second nozzle with a manual switch for use when you build more exhaust temp during your run---or you pull enough flame that you get nervous about holing a piston or two! |

What would be a good 2.75 charger and what A/R housing? |

I have a good S-400 for sale. Send me an email for more info. |

The smallest S400 is 2.5x2.940 with a 1.10 housing and the next up is 2.75 x 3.2 and a 1.58 housing. I was told the small one is too small on the intake side and the next one is too big on the exhaust side. Any suggestions other than a 3LM-466? |

1900 to hot

Do not allow exhaust temp to reach 1900 with stock pistons! they will safely take 1550 to 1600 degrees max if temp is taken just before the turbo!! If temp is taken after the turbo, lower that by 250 degrees. |

We are running a 466 in a slightly bigger turbo class, but safe bet would be right around 30 -32 degrees advance on timing and fuel depending on your turbo right around 550 -575 cc. Remember too lean and making lots of heat which can be bad if you are running stock pistons. And invest in a decent pryometer with high recall (frozen boost .com) has a good one on their site and install it on the manafold right below the turbo, like previous posts try to keep it under 1650.
you did not mention what style head you are running and if you have fly cut the pistons or decompressed the pistons. I would suggest if you are able to obtain a marine or stock innercooler manifold. then cap off the stock intake and create a intake off the front of the manifold. In therory you are creating a cheap version of an air to air innercooler. And have a sweeping 90 degree off the turbo and have your water injection installed in the pipe before the intake it will atomize better. Also to keep heat in check try some header wrap on the ext manifold as the JD design of the heads can be counter productive for pulling when compare to other makes. |
