Where is the best place to put a pyrometer sensing probe? In the turbo housing or the manifold, just under the turbo? |

Good question
|
I had the same question for a Diesel application. For now, i have put the probe in after the turbo exhaust housing elbow, in the bottom of the exhaust pipe, before my safety crossed bolts. I heard you should put the probe in prior to the turbo in the exhaust header, and that was the proper way to get a accurate reading. But if it overheats the probe, it would melt it through the turbo ruining it. Any professional knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks |

In the manifold under the turbo. If you have a qood quality probe you aren't going to melt it, if you do that will be the least of your problems. |

What kind of pistons are you using? Stock, forged, billet? If stock then stay below 1300 and you should be ok, billets 1800 - 1900. |

You'll have more to worry about if the thermocouple probe melts. Type K are the type typically used and they are good well over 2000°F. |
