the perkins is a tough motor to build into a puller. not saying that it cannot be done because it has but mounting a p pump on it is challenging and the heads on the motor do not flow air well. it can be done it will just require some fabrication

Call Brad at Maibach Equipment in Creston Ohio. He's found a head off of a late model Caterpillar (re-badged Perkins) with a much better flowing head. He should be able to help you out with a few other suggestions. Depending on the competition and local rules a Cummins swap may actually be the way to go.

What kind of charger does it have?

Re: Oliver puller problems June 27, 2011 04:38PM
It has a 3lm-466 schwitercharger 2.3 charger right now and a built cav pump lines and injectors. I not trying to run profarm with this tractor just want to have fun in the local light farm stock classes can run 7500, 8500, and 9500. I know a cummins would be the way to go just wanted to see if anybody had ever made a 354 perkins run. Thanks

i pull an 1850 nearly bone stock. its been stripped down to 7500 lbs but the engine is bone stock. i have the pump 20% over stock.
pulls in 3rd gear consistent. at 100hp it will keep up with the boys running around 150. it just balances out that good. ive always wanted to tinker with mine also. but i run no turbo classes every now and again and that would ruin that. i built a red one to pull when i feel like going faster.

i do know this. perkins engines only got better in later years. go find a intercooled 354 out of a 850 massey combine. the heads flow more air, and they have a turbo.i have also read that they have better oil delivery, so they will withstand more. they run 175hp stock. turn that up and you should be able to run 4th gear straight out.

if you could find a european marine perkins 354 they were rated higher hp yet, i cant quote you a #.

i would find an 850 massey and you should have what you need. the only problem you will run into is the turbo mounting and location. you may have to make a bubble in the hood.

good luck

Badger LLSS June 29, 2011 12:46PM
There is a new one out in the BSTP- LLSS class that pulled at the end of last yr. and got a third against some pretty tough tractors. Pulled last week at Belvidere and got another third. Kleckner ??? or something like that and runs with Sweet 16 Oliver of Englekings. Englekings dyno service Rock City Ill.
