p pump governer? July 01, 2011 12:28AM
the governer on my 8550 allis will not kick in unless the throttle is wide open and the rpms are below 1500. any ideas on why this is and how to fix it? any help would be great, thanks!

thats because it's an RQV-K governor designed for truck applications. Still variable speed, just not as responsive as an RSV typical ag governor.

There has to be something wrong with it tho..the rpms shouldnt drop 1000rpm for it to kick in and it will only do it if the throttle is wide open. also when it does kick in the rpms go almost 500 over what it should and it smokes like a pulling tractor!

and if you knock the throttle back just a little the governer just kicks back out.

may not be the same? but we had an sims pump do strange things! and the little thrust bearing in the governor had disintegrated! simple fix for the guy at the pump shop! got a pump back in top condition and tractor now runs better to boot!
