RPM Rule July 13, 2011 05:33AM
I have seen on here from time to time a 3000 RPM tractor, engine, or pump for sale how is the class regulated, by tach, pump settings, or on the "honour" system

I run in a 3000 rpm class in Mo. We use a sled tach to record the run while pulling. It's not a 100% answer but it's a lot better that any other option. It does have some issues but still better that the (haha) honor system.

How exactly do you guys tach the class? Do you guys use a RPM box?

We simply have an additional crank sensor that records the RPMs, there is a plug at the back of the tractor (looks like a 110v outlet), the sled has a data logger that records the RPMs throughout the pull. Equipment is made by Datalog.
