If you can get thru Sioux City and on to the Nebraska side, that's half the battle. Hwy. 35 would be the easiest, and most direct route, however, from Dakota City to the junction to go to Emerson, they are doing patch work on Hwy. 35. I'm told its open, but is down to one lane in areas, so expect delays.

You could take Hwy. 20 thru Jackson, then turn & go South on Hwy 9 thru Allen, then turn West on Hwy. 35 just South of Wakefield to get to Wayne, but Hwy 9 thru Allen is rough as a corncob, and the speed on 9 has been reduced to 45 mph.

The other option is to take Hwy. 20 thru Jackson, then turn South on Neb. 116 thru Dixon and Concord, then from Neb. 116, get on Hwy. 15 and continue South to Wayne. As a side note, you probably can't go any further West on Hwy. 20 than the junction of 20 and Neb. 116, as they are doing bridge work, and are detouring traffic.

Hope that helps! All else, have a look on here: Nebraska Dept. of Roads website.

Just last Sunday I went from near Sioux City, through Sioux City, IA to South Sioux City, NE via hwy 20, turned on Hwy 77 south through Dakota City, NE on west edge, and turned on Hwy 35 and took it through Wakefield, NE, through Wayne, NE, and ended up in Norfolk, NE. All the while there were NO problems!!!! Take Hwy 20 to Hwy 77 to Hwy 35 and you will be ok. I am near Sioux City and there are no problems with any bridges to Nebraska from Iowa directly from Sioux City at all. The nearest problem is down at Onawa, IA to Dekator(spelling??), NE
