Water Problem on IH SF July 14, 2011 04:02PM
We have a 640 IH SF, having an issue with water coming up between the sleeves and FILLING the cylinders, coming out of stud holes too. All sleeves are good, no cracks. Fire rings and gasket are new and correct. Anyone ever have a similar problem? Any solutions that worked for others who have had this issue? (other than go dry block Smiling)

Are you positive that everything is correct (fire rings, gasket etc.). Are you running a dry head? What do you have for sleeves?

If anything is getting into the cylinder I would say the fire rings are not sealed, or your head is cracked somewhere. I've seen heads crack between the water jacket and the ports, which lets water into the cylinder.

When you start it with the radiator cap removed, does it push water out of the radiator?

fought the water for 2 years (640 ih),when it was a super farm, went dry block, only way to go. also put on a 4.1 charger. it too is the way to go..................

Thinking of going dry... if we pull out the freeze plugs and get the leaf blower going is there anything to be aware of in switching it over? Probably piston clearance? Anyone know if we need to change pistons/sleeves or if it'll live as is? Ross Pistons in REI sleeves, sleeves meant for wet application.
